One of the characters in my book has an abusive father. I don't know much about abuse so it's not easy to write. Ideas please.?

I want to challenge my limits, so please don't say stuff like "write what you know" that's not what I'm looking for.

I recommend watching some violent movies or reading a couple of thematic books. For example, in a good film Marrowbone well reveals the theme of a cruel father. You can find recommendations on the internet.

The abusive father can be compared with a father who believes in peaceful parenting. Understanding Smacking Vs. Peaceful Parenting will help to build up the character

There are many types of abuse

i personally had an abusive father. if you want to know what its like there are tons of places where you can reasearch it. also any book dealing with things as that should have trigger warnings and hopefully a help hotline

from personal experience and experiences of people i know i can try to tough on this.

physical: imagine everytime someone raises their hand you flinch in fear because youre used to expect a blow to the face or body. its a lot of hiding and sneaking around when it comes to why you were late or absent from school. how you got those bruises. a lot of makeup use and clothes you can hide in. its a lot of begging and pleading and living with a fear you didnt even know was possible. it hurts you emotionally because its your parent. theyre much stronger. you feel hated. my father was an alcoholic so it was bottles kicked and thrown. pushing, hair pulling, the smell of alcohol, punches, smacks, being hurt with objects. some people have their children kneel on grits.

emotional: anything to belittle the person. insults. accusations. pure neglect.

this is a very dark topic and i suggest you research it so you know more. and about the signs

How to start a book?

Many schools offer courses, and there are on line courses too, some of them free. Some author sites offer free critiques of work. You will have to search for one that is within your genre.
My suggestion if you not wish to try the options above, is to decide on two characters to start with. Describe each and how they relate to each other, what do they say to each other.
The very first thing you have to do with your idea. Is WRITE.

What do you think of naming a child a Harry Potter name?

Well, honestly I think naming a child, especially your first after a Harry Potter character is great. But, as great as that sounds, you also want to secure your child's future from bullying, anti-Harry Potter fans, and etc. But those are great names as Hermione also has a origin, and many people these days name their kids after things. I mean it's better than naming your child sexfruit,(yes, someone has seriously named their child this.) Truthfully, yes I think you should name your child after Harry potter character, but when they grow up, please do not relate them to the character his/her is named after. Ex: You named your child Hermione, do not get a hermione halloween costume unless she wants to.
And never ever compare them, and tell the child how similar they are. That's how they start to hate their name. That's all I guess!! Oh, don't name him/her the full character's name. That's like an easy target for bullies.

Not sued unless you plagiarise. But what's the point? It's been done..and well. Find your own style and story. something unique. good luck.

I need a list of supernatural creatures that can take human form for my story. any ideas?

For it to be YOUR story, you must think of your own characters etc, otherwise, it's not your story and you are not a writer.
