Login in using your browser and go to the wireless settings and set-up a wireless password/key. Remember the key because each device will now need it to connect. You can also turn OFF Broadcast SSID and your network name will not be shown on anyone's device. You must remember the network name when using this method.

I have Hip street tablet and cannot get on the internet. A lock sign appears on my router and I cannot get it off.

Means it's a password protected wifi. Press and hold the if I and tell the tablet to forget the wifi connection. Then power cycle the router. When the tablet discovers the wifi again input the password (usually on a sticker on the router).

Netgear wifi router

1) does it lock up completely or will it work hard lined when wifi fails?
2) do all devices wireless fail or just a single device?
3) do you lose connection to the wireless completely or keep the connection but lose access to the internet? (confusing but very different to me)

in the end you could narrow down the problem but if you have already reset to factory defaults and set back up again and again then it may be time to retire that old router.

I need to lock my wifi. my neighbors are getting wifi thru my router

Hook up a computer to the router with an ethernet cable, log into the router's web interface and check that you have enabled the WiFi security features of your router. Go to the manufacturer's website for specific instructions.

I go to the Network to get a Wi-Fi connection and all I see are not in range, remembered networks or ones that are locked. How do I set up one of my own?

You need to purchase a Wireless Router. Your computer may have internal wifi but you need a router if all the others are locked or not in range. :) Otherwise you can go to public places with free WiFi and use theirs.

NO PC stated, no OS stated, how can anyone guess
with just (2 words, computer + wireless)
wifi you meant Im sure but you can put on a 3/4G card and run that. and that too is wireless. but I be you don't have 4G.
does you CELL phone wifi connect to the router?
if not they you are using the wrong credentials.

what is wrong is simple (kinda)
1: the wifi card/chip driver is wrong /missing or 1/2 loaded.
2: the settings for wifi are wrong, in the setups.
what we do is go to the router, read what setup credentials are there. WEP /WPA or WPA2
the get the passphase from there (was word)

that begs the question who owns the router you or the ISP
if they own it , then its locked, and you must call them and get the to disclose the login credentials. (after its locked)
if not locked , tell me the maker name of the router and model and we can set it up.

if you can not CELL phone, (android ) settings, turn on wifi
if that fails , then you need help setting up the router
on most cases the ISP puts sticker on the back of the router
(nice IPS) that tell you your wifi settings.
if not , you must call them

Wifi

WiFi is not based on your computer, it is based on what you have connected to your internet modem. If you want WiFi then you will need a router that provides WiFi transmission. These routers also have standard ports to connect your equipment that doesn't support WiFi. Most Laptop computers sold now a days have wireless modems intergrated so if you upgrade your router you dont have to worry about having to buy a bunch of other things.
