Well,if the button sticks, that's the problem. It's an electrical contact and it has to work and pop back out. don-ohio

Why woun't my 1996 Ford Thunderbird start?

sounds like a voltage draw some where in the cars electrical system. one way to tell is with a 12volt test light. remove the negitive battery cable from the battery , hook one end to the negitive of the battery and the other to the disconnected negitive cable end. if the car is ok it should have no bright test light lite up. open one car door it should get bright . if there is a lite test light, start disconnecting the fuse circuits one by one untill the light goes out.find the fuse that puts out the light and you have found the circuit that is drawing excessive voltage.than its just a mater of finding out whats on the circuit and you can find the problem,

Won't shift,seems like it's stuck in park

If it's not making horrible washing machine noises, it sounds like it's low on fluid. Make sure the ATF is in the operating range with it running in Park.

Resetting the check engine light

On my 2006 you set the odometer to the normal odometer mode using the button on the dash. When you get that setting, hold the button down until the display flashes. Once it begins to flash, let go of the button and then push it again. The light should then go out.
