TalkAbout Distance Charging & Battery Options

The Motorola TalkAbout Distance and Distance DPS radios have a rechargeable NiCd battery pack (HNN9056 and/or HNN9044). Use of this battery pack is the best method for powering the radio. This type of battery pack has a 18-24 month life expectancy. You can determine the age of your battery from the date code on the back of the battery above the stop sign. The first digit is the year and the next two are the week of the year. Ex: 919 would read 2009 the 19th week.

The DPS model came with both a NiCd battery tray and an Alkaline battery tray. While the NiCd battery pack is the best option for fully powering your radio, along with being the most economical option, in a pinch or when charging is not available the 6 Alkaline batteries will power the radio for up to 18 hours. Note: Replacement battery trays are no longer available, it is advisable to keep both trays. If one fails, you will have the other as a backup.

The TalkAbout Distance is a repairable radio. The consumer replaceable parts are the NiCd battery pack, belt clip, antenna and charger.

How do i open a kenwood th-234 battery pack? all the manuals i have seen shows a release lever in the battery pack. mine do not have one.

If you are talking the battery pack itself, it is possible you have a NiCd battery instead of the Alkaline battery shell. If your battery does not have the locking tab to press on the battery pack, look for the part number and description on the battery itself and see if it matches what is in the user guide.

Motorola t5000

I'm assuming you're using the NiCd batteries. NiCd batteries do not last forever and need to be replaced when they show a resistance to beign charged. To optimize the life of these batteries you need to let them fully discharge before attempting to charge them. This is impractical most of the time.

You have two choices:
1. Purchase a NiMH charger and AA batteries and use that INSTEAD of the CHARGER STAND and NiCd batteries. This type of battery can be recharged without the problems discussed earlier and will last longer... or
2. Purchase another NiCd battery pack.
