Sounds like you're suffering the jungle DVD fever disease, most likely from excess salt air exposure(same thing happens over here on Hawaiian islands). So, just swap out the DVD for another one, and mark your calendar for same drill in another year.

Please go ahead and click on start > in start search type in device manager {(in vista ) in case of xp right click on my computer > properties > hardware > devicemanager}. In device manager click on the + sign beside the cd- dvd > then right click on the driver and uninstall it . Then in start search type in regedit {(for vista ) for xp in run type in regedit} Look for some thing like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Then SYSTEM Then CURRENT CONTROL SET Then CONTROL Then CLASS Then find {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} The whole thing looks like this: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Then on the right hand side look for something like upper and lower filters and delete the upper and lower filters.... Restart the notebook . It will help

hi,there is no problem in drivers .
check the hardware parts
there are 2 possibilities in your case
1.the laser beam which reads the dvd or cds is malfunctioning
2.ensure that the cable & buses are properly connected
..
in case laser beam is damaged you got to get it repaired for proper functioning
WHen A CDROM Begins To Fail... It will Produce Symptoms Such As What You're Experiencing..
Typically This Happens With Multi Drives....
Multi Drives Are All In One Drives.... DVDrw/CDrw
And WHen They Begin To Fail.... THey Will Only Read Certain Brand CD/DVDs... (typically The Generic Ones Aren't readable/writable)
Or When Some Begin To Fail... THey'll Only Read CDs and not DVDs, or Visa Versa...
1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the
registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have
returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the
yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone
Hi - I would suggest that buy a cleaner for the drive, and try playing you cd's afterwords. If it still playing up then copy some music from the computer onto a brand new cd and play back. If that still has the same fault then you may need to but a new drive.
Hi, Sorry I can't offer any help, but then again, even Liteon couldn't help and posted a notice on their website a while back stating that these units were subject to drive failure.
