Yes, need to clean video head of camcorder. Put MiniDV head cleaning tape in camera and clean its video head as per instructions on cleaning tape. Thanks.
Please use good quality video head cleaning tape and clean video head for normal playback. Video head cleaning tapes are available in many electronic stuff stores.
Mine was similar - with vertical black lines on playback. Visit Bristolcameras.co.uk, enter your make and model and ask for a head cleaner. They sent me one within 4 days and that was over the Christmas period. Reasonably priced too (£3.50 + p&p) and the whole head cleaner can be used up to twice once the tape has gone from beginning to end.
A Q-tip should never be used to clean a video head. Unfortunately they can pull the tiny head out of alignment. I believe this is your problem and the repaid may be more costly than a new purchase.
your heads motor ( drum ) cable may have have
come loose or is dirty - since the cleaning
tape made some difference the heads were dirty
or almost worn out ( cleaner tape is abrasive )
so now there isn ' t enough signal ;
if your date and time display worked only in
play ? ( still works for camera record video )
your guides were out of alignment - and the
cleaning tape took your guides even further
out of alignment ( alignment here starts at
$ 50 + shipping )
