Sometimes the TV stays on for hours, but more frequently it shuts off after few minutes. It also makes a humming noise ...

Hello Mircea Ghita,

I'd be more inclined to make sure the high temperature sensor was I good shape...

Go to "shopjimmy" ...(below)

They offer a ecent selection of parts at excellent prices

AND give advice...

It's been a while but I love our old DLP...

It has always made fan noises...

(but if you PUT EVERY WIRE EXACTLY BACK... serious
humming will only be a transformer getting ready to fail).

If the sounds a high pitch squeal !! I had an ole tv that did that when u watched it , finally one day the dang power supply up and gave out !! so that must be what the noise was coming from all that time !!!

Testimonial: "it s more lie a humming sound and no a high pitch. Does that make a difference?"

I have a Samsung hlr5667w when I turn it on the lamp lights but the screen is black with a dim flickering light behind it, there is no audio. The lamp will stay on for a couple of minutes then the set...

If you heard recently a high pitched sound or fan like sound it may be the color wheel--if it fails the set will detect that and shut set off.

If lamp comes on even for a few seconds it likely is good--ballast which drives lamp is possible but rare.

My Samsung HLN5065W turns itself off after about 15 minutes, and all three lights on the front panel flash. The first couple of times this happened, there was a loud muffled sound before it shut itself...

This is a DLP projection that has a ballast and color wheel along with a lamp. The three flashing lights on the front are a diagnostic code. The exact meaning is listed in the owner's manual under troubleshooting. I don't have the manual for your model with me at the moment, so I can't look it up. Since the unit works OK for a while, it suggests that a component is failing under heat stress. This is often the ballast. The ballast is the part that provides the power for the lamp similar to the ballast in a flourescent light. Check the manual for the code and post it here. Also, because your model uses 2 different ballast/lamp combinations, you will need to get the lamp number off of the lamp. Please post that here too.

In the meantime, check the rear area for any obstruction in the air flow. There should be a fan in the rear that needs to be clear of debris and can turn freely. With the set unplugged, try turning hte fan by hand. It should turn easily and continue on its own slowing down to a stop. If it stops suddenly, the fan may be defective and not moving enough air to keep the lamp cool.

Keep us posted.

Check that you replaced the lamp in the right way, and also that the unit is well reassembled, you may also need to reset lamp counter from menu on some model.

Compaq MP2800 Lamp powers down after a few seconds

Hi Wayne

It is normal for the lamp's fan to start running , but should actually happen within 15 seconds of starting up. Try changing the lamp's fan and if the problem still persists then you will have to replace the Ballast ( lamp's powersupply )

Samsung dlp tv hls 5688w problem

Possibly a bad fan. operate the set for at least an hour to warm it up then shut it off does the noise continue for a moment? If so its probaly the fan for the lamp that is making the noise.
