My CD drives quit trying to install a LG CED-8083B CD R/RW. When I try to boot up the computer it gets stuck on the Dell Screen and does not boot. Is it searching for the driver?? I have a old Dell Dimension 4100 with windows XP professional version 2002, service pack 2. Thanks, Joe B.

Re: New CD R/RW drive will not let XP Boot
on the back of the new drive usually is a set of tiny pin jumpers, and a diagram for it on the drive, you might have to switch the pin jumper to "cs" cable select or "slave" usually master is for the hard drive. If that didnt do it then while the computer is booting hit f-8 or maybe f-9 and get into your bios area, search for boot sequence and study the area in there and see if your drives listed, try and change the config there so your hard drive(c) boots first, then usually your new drive. hopefully one of those ideas gets ya going, good luck

Make the DVD your 1st option for booting. It's also your CD drive but is identified as the DVD RW. Once this is made your default (make sure you accept and save the change before exiting) with your installation disk in the drive, boot up and it will read off the disk and prepare your system for install. If your disk is bootable, this will work.
Go to start and right click on My computer then properties/device manager. Go to DVD/CD ROM and right click and select uninstall. Reboot your system and windows will locate it and reinstall it.
Do this one drive at a time.
many problems arises when we speak bout unredable roms, or rom's that sometimes read. might be problem with weak lense, or a weak motor, or a bad board. then only thing u can do is try to clean ur lense with some spirit, or a CD lense cleaner.
if it still didnt work then it looks like u goota take it to an expert.
Sounds like a case of jumper settings. If the CD-RW was installed as secondary IDE to an existing hard drive which is the Master, pls set jumper to SL. They are located at the rear of the CD unit between the IDE connector and the audio out.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
is your hard drive the master on the primary cable? You shouldn't need a digital audio cable unless you want digital audio. Are you using Nero software witht he drive? may have to re-install the software, or better, uninstall it, clear the registry with CCleaner (free download on the web) and then try a fresh install.
