sounds like the circuit board is bad,, when you turn on the unit does the fan come on first if not you need a circuit board, depending on the age it might be cheaper to change the whole unit

SOURCE: need reset code for richmond

I am poting this here hopefully it will help someone else. I have a richmond 40 gallon power vent water heater and it was not working. It was flashing 2-3 on the LED. I used this procedure and it started up..

you can reset the control by unplugging the blower during start up, leave unplugged for at least 5 seconds, plug back in and within 30 seconds cycle temp control from hot to low 6 times.

SOURCE: i have a 75 gal.

I answer questions for free.
My job is to provide resources that help you for free.

1) That being said, my research into FVIRs says you need a plumber when the FVIR trips.
2) The use-and-care manual for your model also says call a technician.
3) Buying replacement parts through a plumber is true for all water heaters except the Bradford White which has a resettable FVIR. BW is the only company with a re-settable FVIR, however the water heater market changes daily.

4) If the FVIR shorted and shut down the water heater, it probably saved a fire and maybe saved a life.

The following site says to call Rheem, who will tell you to call a local plumber.
http://www.terrylove.com/forums/showthread.php?2520-Broke-Rheem-FVIR-waterheater-Please-help

The Rheem lineup of gas water heaters shows you have a 75 gallon tall heater:

The spec sheet for your model

The use and care manual has troubleshooting section > it says the combustion shut-off has to be inspected by qualified technician

SOURCE: Richmond powervent model 6G40PV-40F Lockout 4-2 blink. What's wrong. What do I replace to fix?

1) Rheem-Richmond does not post service manuals:
Copy following link to identify service manual by type of gas control valve:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-gas-water-heater.html#intellivent

2) For lockout, the air intake might be clogged or combustion parts dirty, causing overheating which will break TRD glass vial. Gas control may need to be replaced. Reset gas control by rotating knob to lowest temp for at least 6 seconds.

3) Call Rheem or local service tech.

Is the Richmond 6g40-34pf hot water heater a model with or without powervent

According to photos listed for that specific model... it is NOT power vent.
It is ordinary atmospheric gas water heater with 3" vent pipe

Richmond gas water heater need reset code

Intellivent gas control can be reset on some units.
Honeywell does not make Intellivent.

1) Copy following links:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-gas-water-heater.html#intellivent
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-repair-Rheem-FVIR.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermocouple.html

2) For Rheem, there is a glass vial that is broken if FV system tripped.
This requires new glass vial, which Rheem may send depending on model.
It might also require new parts such as gas control valve, and/or replacement FV sensor depending on model.
Some models require full replacement of water heater.
Each model can be different.

3) Rheem does not post service manuals, and says customers should call service technician.
Combustion parts are held in place with tamper-proof screws and combustion door gasket might need to be replaced when removed from front of unit.

Put in gas valve, a few days later sensor set lock out due to flamible sensor setting off. what are the codes to unlock system?

Air intake is probably clogged, so combustion air flow slowed and caused overheating inside combustion chamber.
This tripped FV system and broke TRD, which is a small glass vial located under burner. The spring-activated air baffle snapped closed and shut off air supply, and also tripped FV lockout of gas control.
Remove burner, replace glass vial ordered from Richmond, and clean air intake.

If you have Intellivent gas control, then it can be reset.
Copy following link to identify gas control valve, and download possible service manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-gas-water-heater.html#intellivent

I have a richmond 40 gallon powervent water heater. It seems to light, but shuts itself off after about 5 seconds. I am leaning toward the vapor sensor. I know there are reset codes, but have not been...

1) Could be the vapor sensor. That's a suspect.

2) General troubleshoot: clean burner and combustion parts, clean air intake, bleed air from gas line, check gas pressure. Color of gas flame should be clear blue, and flame should be strong, and no combustion by-product dripping back into combustion chamber. No chemicals of any kind stored in air supply. Plenty of fresh air. Water heater in hot attic needs more air. If water heater has igniter, then igniter has to be checked. Flame sensor must be positioned correctly and operational at time of combustion, or sensor will signal gas control to turn off gas. Gas control valve can be bad.
Open following link for possible illustrations and reading.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-install-gas-water-heater.html#troubleshoot

3) Specific troubleshoot begins with identifying gas control valve and reading the service manual.
I think the Rheem/Richmond power vent has intellivent gas control
Open following link to identify gas valve and download possible service manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-adjust-water-heater-temperature.html#intelli

4) Take a moment and rate answer:
And take advantage of fixya expert assistance live.
