My hotpoint rfa16 future has defrosted itself and now doesn't seem to be freezing now. Im not sure if the fridge part is still working as I only discovered it when I came down this morning.

In some cases the board and or adaptive defrost board may be located on the back of fridge. there will be a plte covering it, as for evaporator coild they cnnot be covered in insulation but will have a plastic cover that has to be removed to get to them. u wont have a timer if u hve an adaptive defrost board. as per utr problem sounds like a defrost issue, in which case check heating element, defrost terminator, and make sure evap fan is working also, lastly check manual timer by setting it to defrost , wait 30 minutes then check to see if ithe fridge ts back on showing timer is working. if its adaptive board instead of timer you need specil tools to check it. Also check to make sure compressor stays on during cycle and not clicking isound n back? see pics
Your fridge is cooled by the freezer, the thermostat is within the Fridge to tell it to shut off, you might have a bad fan or a build up of frost where the air is sent to the fridge, check where air goes to the fridge when it's running, if you don't feel air flow then something is up, best thing you can do is take everything out and allow the fridge to defrost, at leat 24hrs. then see what happens, if you don't feel air flow after the defrost then you fan is shot and you'll need to replace it.
Hi, Defrost
timer/control is sticking...
Check out these tips...they can help you figure out whats going wrong
with yourrefrigerator and why it is not cooling
assuming fan now working. clean out vents/ drain holes (make sure no ice in bottom of freezer or in fridge unit)i.e. a total defrost.then check door seals all okay(no air leaks) if unit was trying to defrost itself and you reset to colder it will need to reset itself.....
Adjust the temperature control for the freezer to a normal setting. Fast freeze is only for when new products are put in that need to be frozen. This locks the system into a continuous run mode and could be responsible for the freezing condition in the refrigerator section. Check the temperatures with a thermometer as the sensor for the freezer temperature could be bad causing the light to come on.
Sandy, this sounds like a bad thermostat. First: does the unit seem to run continuously? Try this: turn the stat to a position near 'off'. Does the compressor turn off? If not: change the stat. Before you do: check the position of the thermostat bulb. On some units, you can see a thick silvery 'wire' coming out of the thermostat housing. It should be fairly straight and generally located near an air duct inside the unit. If it has become dislodged, put it back. If it is broken or kinked, it needs to be changed. Be sure to unplug your fridge before working on this!
Other possible problems: You may have either low gas or a bad defrost timer. Low gas generally will show up as frost on one side of your freezer compartment and airflow will be fairly low when the fan is running. The defrost timer, used to schedule a defrost cycle is generally not a big problem on GE/Hotpoints, though.
