Their are a couple things that could be causing this, My first thought is that the screen its self is damage. A LCD screen is composed of millions of tiny pixels so when some fails others will still work.
That other thought is that the GPU or video device on the laptop could be failing and creating video problems. Have you tried closing the laptop and opening it agian, this would help rule out a bad cable connection.

LCD flat panel monitors do not have or need a degauss function. The older CRT monitors had the degauss button to remove any magnetism that built up in the metal frame that would cause distortion. LCD monitors do not rely on magnetic fields so no degauss button. If your display is showing strange patterns and text the most likely cause is a bad video card. First try a different monitor on your card. I would bet the display is bad on it too. It you find this problem just replace your video card and the issue should go away.

Any distortion in the picture of the LCD display points toward a defective display. It is possible there is a bad connection between the LCD flex cable and its connector on the printed circuit board but to to check it would require taking the unit apart.

A) Replacement LCD screen backlight could be bad.
Happens. Sometimes you get a bad part. (Bad LCD screen assembly, in this case)

LCD screen may not be the correct one.

A screen Inverter, and an LCD screen; are a MATCHED unit.

B) Screen Inverter:
May be bad, or the Wrong one

C) You may not have the screen Inverter, connected correctly to the Backlight.
Connections aren't tight.

D) The Display Cable TO LCD screen connection may not be tight, or correctly connected.

I know the display shows graphics, but a poor connection of Display Cable to LCD screen, can make the Backlight dim out.

I'm betting it is a poor connection, or the wrong screen Inverter, or wrong LCD screen.

the 32 inch LCD may have a lower display resolution that the LCD on your system. Ensure that the display settings for the LC are at the MAX resolution and 60 htz

Those lines on the right side show sign of damaged T-CON board, part of the LCD panel assembly, nothing you can do but getting the new LCD panel. The bright section on the screen looks like the backlight lamp reflector got out off the guide channel.

Try installing the latest video driver. Download it from the HP WEB site and make sure the video driver matches Windows XP or Vista that is installed on your laptop.

sound like you had problem with the lcd display panel. The Tcon had problem that attack to the panel.
