A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).
To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture.

You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help:

CAnnon Powershot A630 LCD screen will not light up when trying to take a pic. I can, however view old pics that I've already taken.

First press the DISP or DISPLAY button to see if that corrects the problem. If not, a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. Canon eos rebel xsi has black screen while taking pics.It shows the pic afterwards and shows the menu so the screen works but shows black screen while taking a pic

I think it is because the camera has a sensor. The screen turns off so as not to distract you or let light from the screen bother you while taking a shot. You can check this in the manual.

Canon digital camera IXUS 86015 Yesterday I lost

Try using a card reader to download the missing 1000 pics. In the future, don't leave so many pics on the card...they aren't made for long storage. 0b2a25a.jpg

The view screen is black and you can't see what you're taking the pic. Battery is ok

If camera shows Menu item or any on-screen display in LCD but no live view to take picture then it can be either aperture problem or defective ccd imager.
And if you do not see any display icon in LCD then of course LCD section is bad or LCD back light is Off for some reason. Try to see faint image in LCD if it is totally blank by pointing good amount of light with flash light or some thing.

Camra dosent show pic

Please see similar problem titled "black screen". Welsbar posted a possible solution as a clarification request. It involves switching your picture mode to TV and changing the shutter speed to 15 seconds, depressing the shutter button for 7 seconds, then opening battery enclosure. Repeat as necessary - I did this twice before I started to see anything on the screen. Twice more before photos start to look okay. Don't know yet if this is a lasting solution, but at least now I can start using the camera again and find out!

According to Welsbar, the problem is an internal part (iris?) that gets stuck when camera hasn't been used frequently.
