SOURCE: Accidental reversed polarity with an external hard drive

You can send it so some of the data recovery people and they can usually get the data off. It's rather expensive but in your case it should be do-able.

this link has several data recovery services that are all pretty good.

SOURCE: Accidentally wiring the battery in reverse has killed electrics!

When you do such things, you generally blow what is called a fuse link. I can't find a manual to suit your machine. Follow the positive wire from the battery, you should come across what looks like a couple of little boxes with a piece of wire in the middle. This is the link. It is put into machines to prevent major damage if you happen to make a mistake. If you cannot find this, then it is an auto electrician job.

SOURCE: Printer was accidentally plugged into

There will only be very little damage as most electronic devices have protection against reverse polarity. If any thing you may have to replace the component protecting the circuit(usually a diode). However this is a board level repair and is not user servicable. If the printer does not start, please contact Xerox support and they will fix it for you. Dont worry there wont be any major damage and the repair cost should be well under 100$.

I have an original Escort Passport that was accidentally plugged into a 12v dc plug instead of the required 9v dc plug. Anyone know how I can repair this or know who can? Mike

9 to 12v dc should not make a great difference I think if it does not work you have accidentally reversed polarity and blown fuse in it or worse blown protection diodes should smell the burning any elettronic repairer should be able to fix if damage is not to high

I hooked up the power on my corba 29 ltd by and I think I blew something inside. Is this an easy fix?

The Cobra 29, like most CB radios, contains a reverse-polarity diode whose purpose it is to protect the radio against accidental reverse-polarity hookups. Normally all you will need to do is replace the fuse, then hook the radio up correctly.

If that doesn't get you going, then possibly the polarity-protection diode is now shorted and will have to be replaced (or removed - not recommended).

Beyond that, my experience is that the next component most like to get damaged is the Audio Output circuit, either an IC or a power transistor (larger than a regular transistor). At this point you're going to have to take it to a repair shop.

Honda eu10i reverses polarity on boat

Polarity lights in AC means that it thinks the wrong input lead is earthed ie neutral.

If polarity detector is showing that there is no neutral earth bond it may not be a bug but a feature, as standard the EU10i would not have an earth neutral bond.

Otherwise I can not see why your detector thinks there is a polarity reversal.

Printer was accidentally plugged into a reversed polarity outlet. Will damage result??

I don't think any harm would be done because it can only be plugged in a certain way anyway, and even if you did manage to put the plug in incorrectly, it wouldn't be supplied power. I don't see it being malfunctioned by this.

Accidental reversed polarity with an external hard drive

if the board is fried, you can take the platters (discs) out and put in another HD of same make and model to recover data. Will require special tools and patience. Its the only way I know to recover data from a blown HD. PS, use vinyl gloves as to not leave finger prints. and do this in the cleanest area you can find! Im not sure how you managed to reverse the polarity... hope this helps...
