SOURCE: Accidental reversed polarity with an external hard drive
You can send it so some of the data recovery people and they can usually get the data off. It's rather expensive but in your case it should be do-able.

this link has several data recovery services that are all pretty good.
SOURCE: Accidentally wiring the battery in reverse has killed electrics!
When you do such things, you generally blow what is called a fuse link. I can't find a manual to suit your machine. Follow the positive wire from the battery, you should come across what looks like a couple of little boxes with a piece of wire in the middle. This is the link. It is put into machines to prevent major damage if you happen to make a mistake. If you cannot find this, then it is an auto electrician job.
SOURCE: Printer was accidentally plugged into
There will only be very little damage as most electronic devices have protection against reverse polarity. If any thing you may have to replace the component protecting the circuit(usually a diode). However this is a board level repair and is not user servicable. If the printer does not start, please contact Xerox support and they will fix it for you. Dont worry there wont be any major damage and the repair cost should be well under 100$.
