Toshiba LCD TV/DVD 15LV505 lost channels. Rescan = fewer channels. Now in Setup, when I press the remote down-it skips the Channel option. What must I fix/change in Settings to get the Channel option?
Have Verizon FIOS. Dropped channels. So I selected Channels Auto Chn Memory. The rescan resulted in fewer channels than before the scan. So I thought to scan again. However now in the setup menu, when I press the remote down button, it skips over the Channel option. I can't select Channels to perform a rescan. What's wrong? What must I do/fix/change in Settings to again be able to select the Channel option, so I can scan for channels?

Main system control memory IC fault. This is a very small IC; have 8 solder terminals, and can be located very near to the main system control-chroma IC. Check and replace it. Be sure to replace it with the same number printed on it; in all respect. Otherwise, it won't go. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Before replacing it, try a reset to this set, and then check.
Testimonial: "Hello The Knight,
Thanks for your help. But please help me understand. By system control memory IC fault, are you suggesting I need to replace the Eeprom memory? (Toshiba 15LV505 Service Manual: When Replacing Eeprom (memory) Ic.)
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/180772/Toshiba-15lv505.html?page=45
And follow the instructions to reprogram it after replacing the Eeprom? Or do you mean something else?
Thanks again for your help."

According to the manual for the Magnavox 14MS2331/17B, you switch to the A/V input by pressing Ch+ or Ch- on either the TV or the remote until you see AV as the current option. (Thus you have to scroll down from Channel 2 or up from Channel 69 for an OTA signal. For cable TV, the AV will be reached by Ch - from channel 1 or Ch + from channel 125.) See page 3 (7 of the PDF) here: http://download.m4c.magnavox.com/files/1/14ms2331_17b/14ms2331_17b_dfu_aen.pdf .
Since it is possible to skip channels by editing the channel list, you may need to check if the AV option has been skipped. To do this, press Menu. Use the up/down buttons to navigate to Install and press the right button to enter this menu. Highlight the Channel Edit line and press the right button to check this. Once in this sub-menu, use the left/right buttons to scroll through the Channel number options (or use Ch+/Ch- to see the stored list). You can also type in a channel number on the remote. Press the down arrow to change to the line that reads Skipped. Use the left/right arrows to change between Yes or No. (No indicates you can reach the channel with the Ch+/Ch- buttons.) Use the Up arrow to return to the channel number line to scroll to other channels. Press Status/Exit to leave the menu system. See page 10 (14 of the PDF) for details.
If you are using an antenna to receive broadcast TV you may have to rescan to add channel 9 back into the TV's channel list. If this does not work, it may be seasonal or a weak signal from your channel 9 broadcaster. I use a signal booster on my antenna (purchased at Radio Shack..)
Try with the remote to direct enter the channel number (with the number buttons and or enter) If set makes it there go into menu for option to manually add it to the set memory.
You have to set the channel you want as a favorite first and you can do this from the TV. This is why the channels skip as you press up and down. Sometime or another those were someones favorite channels.
Press "MENU" on the TV until "SET UP" appears on the screen.
Now press ^ or v until "FAVORITE CH" appears in purple.
Now press < or > to display the favorite channel FAVORITE CH menu.
You will use < or > to got between "SET and "CLEAR."
So now go to "SET" and press ^ or v until you get to channel 1.
If you want to delete a channel first then select "CLEAR" and then add the channel you wish.
What your doing when you push the channel up and down on the TV buttons is going through the favorite channels. So make one of the favorite channels channel 1 and program your remote.
You will have to disconnect the TV from the AC outlet for a few seconds(10-20) then reconnect the TV and press power. You should get the start up menu after you get a picture. What you have to do is use the vol up/dn , chnl up/dn keys to select the autoprogram setting after chosing from cable or antenna signal. the enter key should be one of the DVD keys either play or stop or some other key, you'll have to experiment a little with it. There is an owners manual available at retrevo.com in case you need it, but I am posting a brief description stated in the manual on how to do this.

Using the buttons on the TV, go to the setup menu, and scroll to "editchannels" by pressing "setup" button until "edit channels" ishighlighted. Then, using the channel up/down buttons, go to channel 91and press + volume. This should add the video input to your channels. 92 is S-video. It is helpful to have what ever device (dvd player or game console) hooked up and powered on, so you know when you are on the right channel, but it should be 91.
Usually if you go into the setup menu, there is an option to allow you to either "scan" for a channel, or "input" a channel. In this case, select "input" and see if the TV will allow you to press the up and down channel buttons and go to a specific channel. If so, when you get to channel 4, press the "add this channel" option (or whatever the menu option says) and you should then be able to go to channel 4 using the buttons on the front without skipping over it.
Turn the unit off, push the setup button 3 times. Press the seek left/right to switch between cable / antenna tuner modes. When cable is selected, press the channel up/down to switch between cable modes. When the unit turns back on, it will rescan for channels.
Enter "3" or "03" on the remote and press OK/Enter. If the channel-skip feature is set on for Channel 3 you cannot get to it using the up/down buttons. Go to the setup menu to disable the channel-skip for Channel 3 if you want to tune it with up/down buttons. If you have no remote you should be able to access the menu from buttons on the front of the TV. (They may be inside a door or panel.)
