I have the same problem finding the correct bulb. The ones I do find don't seem to last for very long either..and the high setting doesn't seem to work only the low setting.

You should be able to find a sub at a home improvement center like Lowe's or Home Depot.

Many models halogen lamps. You must not touch the new ones with your bare skin.

Be sure the oven is unplugged when you remove or install bulbs, as that can damage the control board. We repair them all the time for this.

27oct: BKOK, replacing the light bulb is not simple, and requires a T15 security bit. Our microwave bulb blew this week, and sears on-line was not helpful, so I took the cover off and removed the bulb and the filament is blown. Here is what you need to do. Sorry, it's not easy. 1) remove the cover - this has 3 standard black phillips head screws, 2 on one side and 1 on the other. Then, there are 4 standard silver phillips heads on the back, plus two size 15 Torx screws that require a security bit to remove. 2) remove the 3 sided cover by prying the bottom and then pushing the cover towards the back of the unit to remove the latch keeping the cover secure to the front of the machine. 3) Now, there is a wiring diagram on the cover, use this to locate the bulb, but I will tell you it is on the top of the unit near the control panel. The white plastic connector has 4 wires going into it... Red, Yellow, Brown and Black. The bulb is secured with one screw and permanently attached to a trapazoidal base. The markings on my bulb say KEI, Korea, 125V,30W. 4) Remove the screw and lift the bulb assembly out and see if the filament is blown. The bulb is clear and so it's easy to see the filament. 5) I'm gonna go to local repair shop to see if they have replacements, but I usually go to AppliancePartsPro. They do have this bulb listed for under $5. , which is ok, but I hate paying shipping on such a small piece. Maybe I'll buy some other stuff. Good luck, it's not easy, and not a easy do-it-yourself bulb replacement. But if you are mechanically and electrically competant, it's not bad. But seriously, this is a lot of work to replace a light bulb. I'll take a picture and post that as well

GE microwave JES 2251 SJ02 Light bulb that illuminates oven interior burnt out. Have correct replacement bulb (I think!). Can I remove oven cover and replace light bulb while keeping a good distance away...

sTEVE, THE CAPACITORS HOLD A CHARGE EVEN AFTER THE SYSTEM IS UNPLUGGED. A good rule of thumb would be to allow at least 48 hours for the capacitors to discharge before even getting nea them. Then, yes, you can replace the bulb. Thanks

The light bulb assembly (bulb and socket are all one piece) is part number
WB36X951.

It is located on the air duct assembly where the door switches are mounted.

You can see an exploded view diagram here.

You'll need to remove the outer cover (wrapper) to get to the bulb assembly.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

See these links before proceeding:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt

The screws you need to remove should be pretty obvious, but a special driver (such as a T20H type or GTXH20-100) may be needed.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

If you're not able to find the bulb assembly at your local appliance parts store, you can order one here.

Removing the lamp fro replacement

It may be a whole assembly - the bulb and socket all in one.

Or the bulb may be tacked in with hot glue. If so, heating it up with a hair dryer will help loosen it.

GE microwave interior light bulb replacement.

Your post has two distinct model numbers shown, so it's hard to be precise, but I'll try my best.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

I have a diagram at my site which helps you find & replace many GE cooktop and cavity light bulbs. Other models are similar. It's at
http://207.234.249.73/mwd/ge_lamp_replacement.jpg

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs!

If it's an over the range type, remove the vent grille across the top and see if bulbs can be accessed there.

There may be a panel on the bottom covering the light(s), too.

If not, chances are you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover.

Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

If yours is an Advantium type, the following instructable should help: http://www.instructables.com/id/SZFF4WSF44XYT8X/?comments=all

If it's the one that lights the cooktop, it's normally beneath the bottom cover.

In some cases, it's located in a compartment behind the grille that goes across the top of the unit.
