There is no installation of a Nuvi GPS on a computer that I am aware of.
If you are looking for a way to view the map from the Nuvi on different computers, there is a program called BaseCamp that can be downloaded free from Garmin.
With BaseCamp and the Nuvi connected to the computer via a USB cable, the map and data can be viewed and managed.

connect it to a computer and purchase the maps that you need,if it is new,it will download what it needs for free

If you are having the correct unlock code and it does not seem to work on your garmin nuvi 1490T, then it means you have entered it more that 3 times and it is not receiving the unlock code. I will advice you reset the nuvi first before you enter the unlock code once again. To reset your garmin nuvi 1490T, ensure the battery is properly charged, then you press and hold the power on/off button for about 15 seconds, then the nuvi will restart and you enter the correct unlock code, then it will accept it.
If that does not solve the problem, then you need to connect your device to the computer, then you back up your softwares and files, then you format the device and restore the software and maps back on.
That should solve the problem for you.

it will be getting the satnavs drivers online for it to work.let it do for a while it should work eventually

Not sure how your unit works but I would look at what you have it set at traveling by Auto.... Bicycle or Off Road

Tools ... Settings... System... look at Usage Mode make sure it is set to Automobile if traveling by car
