HP a1240n has no AGP or PCI-E Slot, so your left with PCI VGA CARD.

Here is a link for PCI video cards.

Pick the card that suites your needs ( Pick those with Direct X 9)
note: The higher, the core clock, The better.
The higher the memory and bit, the better.

Well i have a compaq presario sr1603wm and basically i was going to buy a new computer but thats like 600 bucks so i was wondering... what kinds of graphics cards/ram/processors/power supplies can i use to...

you can use these processors:

AMD Athlon 64 (3000+ - 4000+)
AMD Athlon 64 FX (51 - 60)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 (3600+ - 4800+)
Some AMD Opteron 1xx series
Some Sempron 3x00+ (Step E3,

any standard wopeer supply will do, and you will need a more powerfyul power supply for a mre powerful graphics card.

you can get any pci-e card. an nvidia 9800gt used to be the 2nd best graphics, but its now the minimum card for gaming. I wqould reccomend a 9800, or at least an nvidia gtx260. the higher the numper, per series, and the 4xx and 5xx series are btter than the 2xx. be sure to check the graphics card for reccomended power supply rating.

for the ram, you need pc3200 DDR ram(DDR-400) or higher DDR ram, not compatible with ddr2 or ddr3.

Vertical lines on inspiron 9300 laptop lcd

The possible reasons for this could be;

1.)A loose connection between either the graphics card and the computer mainboard or between the Graphics Card and the Computer Monitor.
2.)Your LCD monitor has become faulty and either needs to be repaired by a technician or replaced.
3.)Your graphics card need to be cleaned, clean the gold finger contact on the card.

However in my experience I would say that the monitor has become faulty, try this monitor on another computer and if it still displays vertical lines then you know that this is the case.

If your monitor works on another computer then I would say that your computer or Graphics card is having some troubles.
Overheating plays an important role here.

Kind Regards

Ok just bought a new graphics card for my other pc and was going to replace the card in this pc but if i connect the graphics card the connections for the monnitor are facing the wrong way(connections...

You apparently are trying a different kind of card in the slot than what the slot takes. The connections would never be inside the computer.

If you want to give more of the specifics I could be more precise. I would need the computer make/model, or the motherboard make/model, and also the graphics card info.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Which is the suitable graphics card for my motherboard?

We should know what kind of computer you have, and what chipset is on the motherboard.
What are you planning to do with the card installed. Play games? What kind of card is suggested by a game? (if it is to be used for gamming).
More information would help.

Onboard video card is not working..What kind of External video card should I get

It depends on the age of the computer and on what type of slots your motherboard has. If it has a PCI-EX16 slot then PCI-e graphics card would be your best bet. Its possible that it has an AGP slot though. If its the AGP your graphics card selection will be small.

Second Life

well, alot of factors come into play. First get an ATI 9700, ther less than hundred now, get it from a Computer store that actually has staff that know about computers, dont go to best buy or someplace like that, they only stock the better more expensive ones.

Make sure you get the right one, I.E. AGP or PCI, whichever one your PC is. The graphics card will make your P.C. run better when it comes to rendering graphics so you will see improvement on Games in the way of smoothness and detail. Picture viewing and editing will improve.

If you dont know anything about computers, or enough to get the right hardware, then find an Altek computer store or a comp USA or some kind of store that deals mostly with computers. take your whole unit and go in with it and ask a rep, say, " I need a Video card that fits this machine that meets or exceeds the minimum requirements of this program. Take the program box with you also.

Be prepared for them trying to sell you more than you need, get something thats better than the minimum requirements for the program so that way your sure to not have performanc issues.
