I have hisense 55k20dg. Turns on, i have sound and picture but the brightness is extremely low and can barely see image unless room is completely dark,, would that be backlight inverter? Easy fix?

This model set had defective LED lamps from the factory and only lasted 1000 plus hrs...You can get lamps that will last from shopjimmy that will fix the issue for about $60 with shipping. Its not a hard job changing them, just takes some patience and care when handling the screen as it's extremely fragile on most lower price sets.

Look thru the set up menu and see if there is an ambient light setting that adjusts the brightness of the TV based on the light level in the room. If there is then turn it off.

Think your power supply went south!

Throw it away. Seriously most of the parts will wind up costing more than a replacement set...and you are taking a chance that they will even fix it. Hisense has a poor reputation for customer service and does not make service info readily available. If you do decide to try and repair it....yu probably need at minimum an led driver board...assuming the led is not bad.

Make sure the video is plugged into the same line as the audio...ex. audio 1/video 1. It is probable that you are on input one with the audio an input 2 with the video. This or some other combination that is not matching.

Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement.

This is either the backlight or the backlight power supply that has failed. The unit is LED and those units push the LED lights to the maximum limit for brightness and the lights fail.. It is not as simple as changing a lightbulb though. The LED lights come in a strip and have to be ordered. They are soldered and glued or taped in place.
