MY BLOOD PRESSURE IS 145/90. I am 71. i AM OTHERWISE HEALTHY. SHOULD I WORRY ABOUT THIS
Rena: Normal blood pressure is a reading below 120/80. Your bottom number is a little too high. Here is where to start: decrease salt in your diet. Try to decrease stress (like taking a stress management class). Increase your daily exercise. Herbs that may help lower blood pressure include basil, cinnamin, flaxseed, garlic, ginger, hawthorn, celery seed, French lavendar, and cat's claw (but NOT the real cat!) :) Take your blood pressure at different times of the day and keep a record. Uncontrolld high blood pressure can lead to stroke by damaging and weakening your brain's blood vessels, causing them to narrow, rupture or leak. High blood pressure can also cause blood clots to form in the arteries leading to your brain, blocking blood flow and potentially causing a stroke. I used to work in a dialysis clinic and there were always plenty of men that did not control their blood pressure for many years and eventually wore out their kidneys. If you consistently stay above the recommended numbers, go see your doctor.
