Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.
There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.
First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.
While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

SOURCE: dyson brush roller will not turn
Hi.
Your Dc14 will have A clutch unit.
Check that when you pull back handle to vacuum that the clutch control knob which is located front lower left side of machine moves to drive position & is not stuck in off or park position.
Rotate it to drive if its at off or park when you have lowered handle.
If adter checking this you still have no brush rotation you will need to remove clutch unit to either replace thr belts or fit new clutch.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24. Your cleaner is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the brushbar if it gets tangled with a rug fringe, shoelace etc. After making sure the brushbar is free of threads, hair or other obstructions, you'll be able to reset the cleaner and get the brushbar running again. The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:
http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24new/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/brushbar-not-rotating-reset-check
Use something like the eraser-end of a pencil to depress the reset button, and make sure you push it in firmly until you hear an audible 'click'.
Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you've turned it off using the silver brush control switch located next to the red on/off switch.By following these steps, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance.
However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you recommend the best course of action.
