I had a similar issue with a SATA drive i put into an older p4. I suggest you unhook the drive from the cables and reattach it, just to make sure the connections have not worked loose. If they are tight, then you may want to try a different port on the system board. Since I dont know if it is a SATA or EIDE, I can only assume that, based on size, it is SATA. SATA drives have great performance but cheap data cables. Try a different data cable, or a different sata port. If it is EIDE (40 pins) then make sure the cables are all tight, and please make sure that ANYTIME you work on the computer, you have the power OFF and its UNPLUGGED, so that you dont fry your mainboard. In my own case, the data cable was kinda loose, so it would work loose and drop the drive off the system, forcing me to crash and have to fix the cable and restart. I got a better sata cable and have no trouble.

Files from a back up

You should be able to plug the external hard drive into the new computer and restore. Generally the drivers needed to access the external driver are on the external drive itself. The operating system will detect the hard drive (if it has plug-and-play services running). If the new computer fails to see the external drive, check the cable and download the driver manually from the manufacture's website. If the drive is recognized by the operating system, but you do not see a prompt to restore from the backup, you may need to locate a setup program on the external hard drive to start the restore process.

Acer external hard drive ah022s usb3.0 not detected

Try to connect it on another usb port, or another PC to make sure that it's not your usb or PC's fault. If nothing happens, turn it off, disconnect the cables, power source and usb, reconnect them, and turn it on.
Good luck.

When I plug my 320G WD Elements there is no WD icon on my windows or my computer window. thanks

Have you used this HDD before?, it this is the first time?

Sometimes you have to install the WD Smartware Software. In the case of the 320G, which are the first HDD released, The computer should detect them automatically.

Try with another USB port. Do not use a USB multiport because it won't power the HD.

If it doesn't work on your computer, try it on another one. This way you can discard the possibility that the HDD is damaged.

While watching movies on tv from hp simple save, it stopped working and shows nothing on the drive, cannot access it on pc either, windows recognizes the drive but drive wont open

Go to control panel in Windows

Admistrative icon

Computer mangagement

Disk drives

Check you can 'see' your drive listed.

If not, you have cable problem, power supply problem or driver problem.

Reset whole system to see if it finds drive again.

Try it in another computer, too.

External hard drive not recognised on my ps3??

Ok. Well this is easy! your hard drive is formatted in NTFS, ps3 wont recognize that. it needs to be fat32 find an XP machine not a vista machine.

download Swiss Army Knife and format the drive in fat32. you will loose ALL information in your external. you will need to back up anything you want to save and put it back after the format.

good luck!
