I just bought a second hand DEM 10 DEHUMIDIFIER. After starting it up (on every setting) the motor cuts out after a few minutes. All filters are clean. Please help. Kind regards Scott

The flashing pause light on your DeLonghi dehumidifier indicates that the unit is in a defrost cycle. It could be that the fan / fan motor has seized or jammed. Have a look through the vents and see if you can spin the fan. If not, you will need to strip the machine. Try lubricating the bushes / bearings. Often on these type of units, the vapours dry out the bushes and then they get tight and jam the fan.

You may need a new fan motor. If you can get to this
motor, with the power disconnected, see if the blade
is free to move. Do you hear any sound coming from
this unit?

Unless you are licensed and qualified professional, do not try to repair a dehumidifier by yourself. If your unit is running constantly yet there is no water in the tank, try lowering the temperature control. If the problem persists, there may be a problem within the refrigeration system. You may need to pull the filter and clean it. Also try wiping off the unit itself. When the water tank is full, the unit will shut off and will not run until the tank is emptied. The dehumidifier shuts off by a safety switch in the back of the unit. If the switch is not working properly, you may try manually pressing the button or slightly bending the switch.

Motor If the fan motor is damaged or will not work, no cool air will be coming out of the dehumidifier. The unit, however, may still run. You may need to replace the motor. If the coils in the back of the dehumidifier constantly freeze, try turning off the unit for an hour or re-locating the unit to a higher position to allow the room to heat up. If your water tank is constantly full and you are emptying it on a daily basis, you may have a water leak somewhere in the room with the dehumidifier.

The black cylinder is the compressor. It sounds like your unit is cycling the compressor for some reason. If the compressor starts, runs fine, and removes water when you set the humidity control to the driest setting the compressor is probably OK and the problem may be with the humidity control causing the dehumidifier to "short cycle" for some reason. You may need to change the humidity control or relocate the dehumidifier in your crawl space.
If the compressor attempts to start, and then sits quiet for 10 minutes, and then attempts to start again, you have a problem with the dehumidifier. There are a few things that can cause this problem:
Low refrigerant charge
Bad compressor capacitor
Bad compressor overload
Plugged capillary tube or broken expansion valve
are the common causes of this behavior. If you suspect one of these problems, call the factory service department at 1-800-533-7533 for help.

First, make sure the humidistat isn't set too high by adjusting it to the lowest humidity setting and running it again. Next, test the dehumidifier by placing it in a closed bathroom with a hot shower running. If you don't see water collecting in the unit after several minutes, turn the unit off and clean all dehumidifier filters and coils. If, after adjusting the settings and cleaning the unit, you still don't see water collecting, you may have a refrigeration issue. This situation will have to be addressed by a qualified technician.

only two fan speed - fast or slows. use fast humidity - cuts out appliance when required humidity is reached. set it about half way note that is f bucket if full, then a float switch will cut out the appliance
