Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

Samsung HCN4727W Rear Projection TV, green screen, audio works

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai2_bing.gif,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Picture out of focus

There will be two big Audio Amplifiers on the convergence board, they will say STK382 or some such STK number on them. Look for burned connections on the bottom of them and resolder any suspect connections before anything else. If that doesn't work, get an ohm meter across the various outputs and look for one of them with vastly different readings than the others and change the chip with the funky readings. Lastly look for the connection to the edge sensors on the sides of the screen about half way up. If that wire is disconnected it will give a very bad picture that is very similar to what you are describing.

Samsung Rear Projection TV - SP43H3HT

There is a problem with the self focus function on the TV set.  We have had ours replaced twice. Once under warranty and once out of pocket.  After you get it fixed, if you do, the self focus option needs to be set to "OFF" and only focus the TV when necessary.  Ours is going out again unfortunately. You would think paying what we all did for this paticular TV  we would or received a higher quality project.  However, Samsung only hymns and haws about it and offern absolutely no help other than TV repair people in our area that they know about. (which seem to charge absolute top price).

We tried to get the screen replaced while under warranty and were unable to Samsung wouldnt cover it.  Now we cant even locate the top layer screen and pay for it ourselves.

I dont think I will ever purchase a Samsung TV again.  Never again.

Projection tv

A lot of times when the convergence ICs blow, there are also problems with resistors on the board (talking from Hitachi experience), or the board itself.

If the other problems, like blown resistors, are not repaired, the ICs will blow again right away. If the ICs are your only problem, then replacing them may work

Red CRT is dim....

Yes I did. You will need to get a service manual for this TV set to trace the voltage coming from the sweep power supply. If this is a problem that is new after you replaced the convergenbce4 board, you for sure have a broken wire or connection somewhere in the set. Have seen this happen may many times after a novice repairs a TV set. Good Luck
