Aircard 595 not recognized by Sprint PCS Connection Manager
I have a Dell D830 Latitude laptop running Win XP w/SP2. I used the Sprint provided CD to load its PCS Connection Manager. The info boxes indicated the software was successfully loaded, the latest drivers were loaded, and Win XP recognized the new hardware, a Sierra Wireless Aircard 595--PCMCIA. After rebooting and starting the Connection Manager, it showed a "No device detected" message. I went to the Sprint web site and I follwed the suggestions in the FAQ section regarding software install problems. After several unsuccessful attempts I called Sprint's tech support and I was told there was nothing else they could recommend except to return the card and get a replacement. I co-worker tried to load his Aircard 595 and encountered the same problems and he too had a Dell D830 laptop. Note: I also checked Device Manager (network adapter) and there was no question mark to indicate a problem with the adapter. I also disconnected my home WI-FI in hopes of resolving the problem but it did not work. Thank you!!

With the laptop facing towards you look at the right hand side of it, down the side of the latop just above the DVD/CD RW you will see a slot with a small button to the left of it. That is the PCMCIA slot. Push that button so it pops out and then push it back in again. That will push out the blanking plate. Pull out the blanking plate and then tyou can pop in the aircard. Make sure you don't put the card in upside down and also make sure you have the driver/software CD handy.
You might have to go in and configure a wireless connection for the Sierra--though i didn;t have to.
I use the Sierra 881 usb connect. when i initially plugged it into my Dell Latitude, it configured itself--though there was communication software that set it all up. Google it for setup--there's newer software out form Sierra that is equivalent to the AT&T communication manager software for the 881.
No, this would be seen by the provider, Sprint and would be a lot of overhead to track each computer connected. It is too costly and Sprint may not provide the info, mostly just connected times. From what I remember, they are like a modem that dials a number. I am in IT (remote connectivity and security) and I have used Sprint and Verizon cards with many laptops myself. :) hope this helps.
The ".exe" for the manager, right click on it, hit properties > go to compatibility tab > choose run in computability mode for "windows XP" SP2 and choose "run as administrator."
You could do this, it would be a bit of work! You would have to dedicate the computer with the sprint card to provide the internet connection to your router, which would then supply all the other computers with internet.
Assuming you have windows XP or Vista on the machine with the sprint card you would enable Internet Connection Sharing, which would provide an internet connection into whatever is plugged into the ethernet port, your router.
If I were you, I would let your windows manage your wireless network on the computer with vista. Also you might, If you haven't already tried using your install new programs in the control panel, As long as you have the sprint software downloaded in your laptop windows should still recognize the wireless connection, Try letting windows manage it from the Network properties and there should be an option there that lets windows manage you network. try it see if that helps you out. If not write back here and let me know we can try another route. Sorry you having problems.
