There has been quite a bit of duplication in Gibson serial numbers across models and years. IF the number appears on the headstock, and not some other spot, it should be a Les Paul Classic, made at the Nashville Plant, TN, USA in 1990 or 2000, Production Number: 9425.

However that serial number was also used on a Gibson solid body guitar (ie a SG or Les Paul Junior) made at the Kalamazoo Plant, MI, USA in 1961, Production Number: 9425.

So you will know which it is. If a 1961, it COULD (but not always) be valuable, in which case you would need an expert opinion. Send photos and full description to

Hi out there, I am trying find the correct age of my Classic Gibson Les Paul and am struggling. it's serial number is 064336. Any help would be great fully appreciated. Thank you

This is actually not an easy question to answer a Gibson (as you may already know) has used multiple numbering schemes..Your guitar may be a 2000... This is from Gibson's site: "Les Paul Classic: This model features an ink stamped serial number with no "MADE IN USA" (just as we used on the original 1952-1960 Les Pauls). Most will be 5 to 6 digits in length, but the earliest examples feature 4 digit serial numbers. There should be a space after the 1st digit with the 4 and 5 digit serial numbers, and no space with the 6 digit numbers. The 1st digit indicates the year of manufacture for the 4 & 5 digit serial numbers, these were used from 1989-1999. The 1st and 2nd indicate the year of manufacture for the 6 digit serial numbers which we've been using since 2000. Examples - 9 xyx = 1989 (4 digit number beginning with "9" used only in 1989) 0 xxyx = 1990 9 xyxx = 1999 00xyxx = 2000 05xyxx = 2005" http://www.gibson.com/Support/Serial-Number-Search.aspx/ Alternatively many people have gotten the best answer by calling Gibson directly: USA: 1-800-4GIBSON HTH!

Hello...i have a black gibson les paul custom. Serial number 00117886. what year is it and would this be considered a black beauty? any idea of value too?

The term 'Black Beauty' has been well overused by now. It was originally the 1957 black Les Paul Custom model, but by now is any black Les Paul Custom. In addition Gibson themselves are cashing in by doing reissues, finished to look older.

So if it is a black Les Paul Custom, then yes, it is a Black Beauty, according to someone somewhere. On top of that, Gibson has reused serial numbers, in different years for different models.

If the serial number is stamped on the headstock with 'Made In USA' the guitar was made at the Kalamazoo or Nashville Plant, in 1976.

Those guitars are worth US$3000-4000 depending on condition.

Otherwise it was made at the Nashville Plant, TN, on January 11th, 2007.

Those newer reissue guitars sell for similar prices.

Hi!, I have a les paul electric guitar, and the serial number is 414823, I would know the year of the manufacture, thank you

If the serial number is stamped on the headstock, your guitar was made at the Nashville Plant, TN, USA, in 1994 Or 2004

This confusion is due to Gibson having using the same serial number on different models in different years and series.

If the serial number is impressed on the headstock along with 'Made In USA' your guitar was made at the Kalamazoo or Nashville Plant, USA, in 1974 Or 1975.

Epiphone serial number 10111511236

Depending on condition and if all parts are original or not, there are variables. If all original, 125 is less than half of what a new one costs.

Gibson serial number check

Gibson 1961-1969 Custom SG reissues since 1997
YYRRRM
Y is the production year
RRR(R) indicates the guitar's place in production for that year.
M is the model being reissued
Reissue model codes:
1= SG Custom and Special
2= SG Standard
3= 1963 Firebird 1
4= 1964 Firebird III
5= 1965 Firebird V & VII
8= 1968 Les Paul Custom
So I think 737582 would mean the guitar was the 758th Custom SG Standard built in 1973. See this... http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Support/SerialNumberSearch/Default.aspx

I need to find information on a Gibson guitar serial # 020600676 Is it authentic?

Is is stamped into the wood? Is "Made in USA" also stamped? You have the proper amount of numbers, and looks like it was made on the 60th day of 2002 in Nashville. For more information, go to:
