Magnavox 19" LCD TV: no sound

Turning the TV on after it has been off overnight worls for a few seconds, then the sound goes off. None of the controls works after that ( ON/OF, change channel etc.).

Pulling the power plug off, waiting a few seconds and replugging it turns the TV on, again for a few seconds. This dance needs to be repeated 4 or 5 times and then the TV works for the rest of the day.

It sounds like a dry joint, where the solder cracks if you tap it on the side and it alters its state then you have to locate this cracked solder and re solder, sometimes not visible though

Almost anything could happen when aTV or any appliance hits the floor. You can just about say this TV is totaled. If you know of a hobbiest in electronics, have them remove the back cover and inspect the boards for cracks. You might be able to save.....just maybe. Chances are not real good, but have a look and thanks for asking, and show a few hands of support!

My magnavox 42mf438b lcd tv will be fine for about 10 minutes when i turn it on, then the screen goes completely black but it still has sound. it stays like this even if i turn it off and back on. i can...

that set is highly rated by users .. it first came out in early 2009 (i think) so you might check to see if any warranty remains ... the display is illuminated by several lamps .. each lamp has its own high voltage inverter .. all the innverters are powered by an output of the low voltage power supply (often 18 volts)... i would suspect a problem with that low voltage power supply.. either a bad capacitor or a thermal issue .. .. ..

Picture comes on for a few seconds then it goes black. Sound continues to work but no picture. After turning off and on a dozen times in a row, the picture may stay on

These t.v.'s have a microprocessor in them, similar to a computer. Try unplugging it from the wall for a few minutes then plug it back it. If that doesn't work try removing the cables and plugging those back in.

Magnavox 19" TV shuts itself off.....won't stay on

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

TV Picture Goes Black

I had the same exact problem.
I removed the bulb and cleaned it. There is a small screen at the top of the bulb and it was covered with dust. Once it was cleaned I replaced the bulb and it solved the problem.
Thanks to those who posted the solutions
