I found a Salton espresso and cappuccino maker ex45 today at a thriftstore in great condition. I bought it intending to replace the same model under the name Maxim ex45, which sadly the knob broke on.

the new Salton machine made espresso great but no steam comes out of the steaming wand at all. The water is full, I poured a small shot of espresso and there is plenty more steam in the machine but when I turn the nob to use the steamer nothing happens, however you can hear that the water inside is continuing to be heated and eventually steam began coming out the top where you fill the water tank. It was a bit scary hearing all the pressure building up, I took the black rubber frother off and checked the metal end, nothing seemed to be blocking the exit there. I tried soaking the wand and scrubbing it even though it looks as though it has never been used. Any ideas?
