It is possible that you need to program your remote control for your LG TV. Take a look at this link, it has all the info in it: www.verizon.com/support/residential/tv/fiostv/remote+controls/setup/setup.htm
Your dish remote is the only one that is compatible with the dish receiver. You're going to have to program all the functions you want to use to the dish remote. They are usually set up for all the normal functions, volume, power, dvr etc.
If the VCR button lights up when you press the Power button, you are not in the correct mode to operate the TV. If the remote is programmed correctly, when you are in SAT mode, you can press the large RED button to turn your receiver off/on. The RED TV button will turn your TV off/on. I have provided links to program your remote to your TV again. I have also provided codes for your Sanyo TV.
Instructions to program your remote to your TV (begin with step 6):
I would suggest you try to find a universal remote that has an "input" or "source" button and program that one to your tv. By pressing the "source" or "input" button, it will change the input to the tv.
I hope this helps!

I had exactly the same problem. I finally found the power button on the underside of the TV. It is well hidden and to find it, you need to run your fingers underneath the panel. Turn it off for a minute or so and turn it back on and then turn on the switch on the panel on the upper right side where the channel and volume buttons are. It works.
