Why would my older dell laptop start running 'slow as a snail'? It came with windows 7, but I took the free upgrade to windows 10. Ran GREAT @ 1st but now slow. *I have a Dell Latitude 2120*

Windows10 is a very heavy APP based system, you may have noticed how few of your older programs works or how many new "APP" you have to install ?
W10 also comes with all the APPs switched on, meaning that every bit of the RAM and connections are drained by these same APPs all downloading their own updates permanently and at same time.
If you are on metered connection, that means all your data allowance will disappear quickly.
You need to turn all tiles OFF. Some are not easy to find and some need removing altogether. W 10 is a constant fight to keep the APPs from stealing my data. It updates constantly and crashes itself on a daily basis. I have slung 3 computers because of W10. Rolling back to previous versions blanked the laptops I had and the desktop got fried because of the driver updates.
I cured all my problems buying a top of range W7 laptop very cheaply (i7 Dell) that shoots from the hip and never crashed once.
trying to make your computer "like" something it wasn't designed for will make it sick. W10 is a massive program, huge and messy.
Many will like it, I don't because it caused me expense, time and stress.
My i7 Dell is 3 years old but does everything I want and plays high end games very well too ! Not to mention I can watch my DVDs, plug in mutliple screens etc etc....
You may find your computer works fine after you find all the OFF switches but keep an eye on updates that switch them all back on again.

it sounds like you did the right thing, i would search google for "Dell D520 keyboard", you should find many places at different prices, if you havent bought from the site before, try reading some customer feedback, and also, the cheapest may not be the best, look for a good return policy and or warranty for the item. if this helps pleas give a fixya rating thanks

Update windows xp to Windows 10 explain steps.....XP TO WHERE TO END AT WINDOWS 10 INSTALLATION

You almost certainly can't. Windows XP is no longer supported and hasn't been for years. There is a compatibility checker on the Microsoft site that will see if your hardware and the software you have on the computer will run Windows 10. I had XP and had a high end PC built and purchased Windows 7 Pro. I then took the free upgrade to Windows 10.

How can i upgrade to windows 7 for free?

You can not upgrade to Windows 7 for free legally.

At this time, Microsoft no longer even sells windows 7. Some dealers may still have it in stock, but it's no longer for sale.

What windows can i download that is a upgrade from windows xp pro THAT IS FREE?

There is no Windows version you can download legally for free. The Windows 10 "free upgrade" is only for people that currently have a legal Windows 7 or higher install.

You may want to look at Ubuntu Linux. That's free and will do pretty much anything Windows will.

Converting from xp to windows 7

You can, but thorough backup of all your XP stuff is needed first, as you will lose much of it. Here is the detailed MS guide

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7#T1=tab01

Unless you have a genuine copy of W7 already, I'd recommend going to W8.1 , as it has now stabilised and will be supported for much longer than W7. However your hardware would need to be good enough. From XP there is no automated way to check this, instead

Running really slow

Download CCLEANER FREE at: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Install and run to remove"junk" from your machine, also, open TOOLS, STARTUP, disable programs that you do not need at start up. If you feel comfortable with it disable programs in "Services"that are not needed, for instance "Windows Search" it's a memory hog. Also download MALWAREBYTES FREE at :http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ Install and Run a FULL SCAN, delete all results. Take a look at this procedure: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10things/10-ways-to-speed-up-windows-7/3332 . Get rid of TOOLBARS on your broswer,IE. Use GOOGLE Chrome, https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/ it's faster. REMEMBER, the more program that start at boot the slower it will be. Keep all Anti-Virus, Malware, CCleaner, Windows ...etc. up-to-date. Your laptop has desent specs and should run well, just need a tune up. Get rid of the extra baggage. Installing adobe acrobat pro 6 to windows 7

This is an old version of Acrobat that was written for NT, Win2K and XP. Due to changes in the OS, it's hard to get the program to install in Windows 7.

Which version of Win7 do you have? (32-bit or 64-bit and Home Premium, Pro or one of the other variants) Since you indicated this under the Dell Dimension E521 with 1 GB of memory, I'll guess Win7 Pro 64-bit. (This uses the 64 bit CPU) You can check by clicking Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System. If the Windows version ends with x64, it is the 64-bit version. Otherwise, you have the 32-bit version.

Under the 64-bit OS, you need one of the following workarounds: a second computer, a dual boot computer or a virtual computer running an older version of Windows. If your hardware supports virtualization, this might be a good bet if you can add memory to computer. With Win7 Pro or Ultimate, you can download and install Virtual PC and XP mode from Microsoft and run XP for free. Then install Acrobat in XP mode as if it were your only machine. (Note: the Virtual PC requires a share of your total memory and doesn't give it back to the main computer while it is running.)

The other methods listed require a licensed version of an older Windows OS.

If you have the 32-bit version of Windows 7, you can try the compatibility mode. Right click on the installer and choose Properties. In the compatibility tab, check always run in the compatibility mode and select an older version of Windows. Then click Apply to save the changes and then click OK. Then right click again and choose Run As Administrator. You may have to repeat the compatibility mode changes for the program itself.

You may want to consider upgrading to a Windows 7 compatible version of Acrobat. The current version is Version X.

I hope this helps.

Inspiron 1150 Slow startup, slow printing, unable to run 2 programs at once

What Operating System do you run? If it is Windows XP SP2 (Home Edition or professional), here are some things you can do to speed up your system. 1st you should remove all programs that are not required from the start menu. Start > Run > Msconfig > startup tab. Unselect all that are not necessary. Also Right click on my computer > properties > Advanced > Performance settings > Adjust for best performance. This should speed things up a little. I would recommend atleast 512 MB of memory to run Windows XP and its applications decently. You should consider an upgrade.
