My Kirby G3. The power assist (DRIVE) takes off and does not allow the vaccuum to return. It has a very strong drive assist. How do I get it to reverse and not just drive?

I do not know much about Kirby G3. Did you read the instructions because sometimes we over look a part or we didn't understand the instructions and it might be a important part of the machine. Also it might be a faulty chip in the vacuum not telling it to drive instead of reverse.

How do I detach the cloth bag from my Kirby G3 Vaccuum to wash it

I would clean the bag by blowing it out with compressed air (lightly). If you do wash it, do it by hand in room temp water and air dry. I'm not too sure how to remove the whole bag on that model. You should call your local vacuum dealer to inquire, and ask the same question you asked here on Fixya.

Kirby g3 tech drive

so when u pull it back it's like it's not engaged at all? then it maybe the reverse is out....with the fwd soon to follow. remember the vac is 20yrs old; & working that long? it definately served it's purpose.
depending how much money you wanna spend on it buying a new or used trans. plus labor...or just an ebay used unit.

Kirby Vaccuum Cleaner:

likely a broken belt. turn vac over and see if roller turns free. if it does the belt is broken. turn the handle on front of vac. turn latch under headlight and remove head. open bottom plate and return handle to normal position. belt and brush roll will lift out. reverse procedure to install. directions are usually printed on the head of vac under headlight.

My G3 works with the hose, but not with the Tech Drive

Try removing the nozzle and poking a screwdriver in the little slot for the safety switch and seeing if it runs. Maybe the nozzle's poker isn't pushing it in adequately?
