You do not state your model number, so: If you have a tub clean cycle, use that, if not, use the longest, hottest cycle with no clothes and a front load washer cleaner like Ahfresh, Washer Cleaner, SmellyWasher Cleaner, Tide front load washer cleaner, or Whilaway hot tub cleaner. Clean the tub gasket area by the door and remove the filter and clean it out also before you run the clean cycle. You may have to run the cycle with a cleaner twice to remove all the built up soap scum inside the washer. Now, after the washer is clean, USE ONLY ONE TO A MAXIMUM OF TWO TABLESPOONS OF HE LAUNDRY DETERGENT PER CYCLE !!!! (and no more than one teaspoon of fabric softener per cycle, if you use it)

Well, with that model I'd guess you are in the UK, and I don't have parts breakdown or service info on those models, but I'd run the front load washer cleaner through it. Not sure which ones are available over there. You could check out http://www.smellywasher.com/ for one possiblity. The big thing is that these machines use very little water, and many of the newer soaps are 2x or 3x concentrated, so you have to use very little soap. (much much less than the soap manufacturers suggest) in order to rinse all the soap residue out of the clothes and prevent it from builing up in your washer and causing odors. (oh, by the way, that one cleaner I listed as Washer Cleaner is actually " Washer Magic ")

Washing machine is smelly

If you read the info with the washer, it tells you to leave washer door when not in use , there is as los a freshener tablet to use when the clean light comes on. This will keep your washer smelling fresh.

SMELLY washing machine

First i hope you have cleaned out your filter. For the smell: Switch from liquid to powder detergent, no fabric softner, not necessary. Clean the big gasket with detergent and run a half load (without clothes of course) very hot cycle with 2 cups of vinegar only. Leave the door open whenever possible. This helps in drying out your washer and preventing mildew. Shut your wall water valve after your wash

Smelly water with water softener

Your local home depot sells a product called AFFRESH that is made for front loaders to clean mold as well as stagnant water smells from washing machines. I have also hear other techs suggest vinegar and water but personally I would much rather have the unit smelling nice and flowery smell instead of a vinegary smell. Also it is important to note your drain line should be at least 6" higher then the top of your washer if it were less then the water that is supposed to leave the machine goes back inside the machine thus giveing some a stagnant water smell or like bad eggs.If you have any further questions message me back
Thank you

Smelly washing machine

put some bleach in the washer and run a rince wash (nothing in the washer) then run 3 more rince washes to clear out all traces of bleach before you put any closes in it,(or do a hot white wash only) this should work ok, when not in use all ways leave the door open if you can to change the air inside your washer it stops them smelling

Odor inside the machine

Hi,

Odor in the machine or clothes is a common problem with front loading machines that use a small amount of water. Fortunately there is a solution. There is a couple of cleaning products out there that work great to help this.

- Affresh
- Smelly Washer

They can be found where you buy detergent. I have found the Affresh to work the best but have heard great things about Smelly Washer too.

Here is a link to a page I put out that tells a bit more. Let me know if this was helpful to you.

Thanks

I think that the problem is that these washers use too little water for rincing. Concentrated detergent residues are drying-up, solidifying on internal surfaces, including exhaust tube, and smell like...

I've got a Maytag with a similar issue.. Try this: Take a 1/2 cup of automatic dishwasher soap powder (Such as Cascade) and toss it into your washing machine without any clothes in it.
Run a whites, hot water cycle with an extra rinse to see if this will break down some of the buildup and remove the smell. You may want to run a second cycle without adding soap to clear the drain lines.

Kenmore front load HE washer odor

How old is your machine? Mine is 5 years old, and I just started to get a "sewage" smell in my laundry room this weekend. I disconnected the water return to the sewer line and discovered lots of gunk in the hose, and the connector to the machine was completely dark green. I'm going to replace the hose, and trying to figure out if there is some sort of filter.

We only use He detergents too, so I guess this is something that just happens over time.

Frigidaire Front Load Washer E20 error turned into E21

it smells because it doesn't get to clear out properly because its blocked, simple, it doesn't always drain the smelly water (imaging washing plates in the sink using the same water all week) it leaks because you have either damaged something taking this unit to bits, or you have not built it back together properly oh and i am a retired appliance engineer, we know modern technology, what you have to ask yourself, was your own repair worth it, prevention is better than cure, if you removed items of junk from clothing before feeding them into modern technology, it wouldn't need cleaning out??
