Have comcast and all I need to do is get the tv to channel 3/4. It displays CH60 and will play dvd's and vcr tapes.

If the remote is new and OK, then my opinion is the Ir Receiver on the front panel of your TV set is burned, replace it with new ones will solve the problem.
To locate it, follow the Ir receiver that written on the front panel of your TV, behind it is the Ir Receiver .

could be that either the dvd or the vcr are malfunctioning, usually it is the vcr that creates the problem. If you turn tv on and set vol to low see if you can hear the noise of the motor loading or trying to load,with out a tape inside. It may be a good idea to have a qualified tech repair it, these units are difficult to work on and further problems may come up if you are not familiar with the tv.
