SOURCE: Wiring harness

you should never cut the wires on your factory harness... metra and other companys have harnesses that fit your car and would provide you with a correct wire color code you need to hook up a aftermarket stereo keep that in mind but i will post the wire diagram u are looking for

SOURCE: installing after market stereo

Dave,

You will need to go buy a wiring harness adapter from your local Walmart (usually cheapest there) or Local Electronics place (ie Best Buy). The wire harness that goes out from the radio goes into the Adapter and the adapter plugs into the car harnesses. Also these Adapters come with the wiring diagrams for your vehicle. They typically run 10 - 15 bucks depending on where you get them. Thanks for using FixYa!

Sincerely,

JC

I am trying to install an aftermarket stereo in my 1991 ford f-150 without a harness adapter and need to know what to do with the battery constant wire

You need to use a test light/probe to find a 12v supply of power that is not affected by the key if wiring into the original loom.A wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the yellow constant power wire(memory)is another way to do it.It will not drain your battery as it is a very low consumer of power.Good luck
