Slow performance My notebook has been very slow and very noisy as if it is processing something huge. If I check the task manager, I can see no process is running, system idle process is more than 75%. I am not sure what the problem is. Is it just the old CPU not able to process?

System resources at 75% on idle only gives you 25% to work your notebook. Sony VAIO PCG-K25 Laptop 2.8 GHz Pentium 4, 512 MB RAM should be plenty to run most OS and programs. The OS, software and accessories attached to your laptop are utilizing 75% of your resources on startup. You may want to do some maintenance, check your processes on startup & carefully remove any not being used, check your networking usage, good antivirus & spyware cleaning, clean & defrag your hard drive, remove some of your files & programs, and upgrade your memory.

I had an acer aspire 5335 that did the same thing, do as I say... CTRL+ALT+DELETE and open task manager. got to processes. Id there are many of them from programs you don't have or don't recognize you could have viruses or unneeded processes. try ending them, they usually never close by themselves and require you to do it as said. they could be slowing down your computer to this point. If not then watch the performance on idle with no tasks running. if the cpu is jumping from a low number like 10% to 80%-90% non stop you might want it to be checked out.

Slow scrolling

Scrolling on-line? off-line? If on-line, i would suggest it's the website/internet. If off-line try shutting down unnessary programs running in background. Is your CPU or Memory running high? Open Task Manager, Performance? Open Applications or Processes to see what is using all your resourses, end processes that are unnessary

Slow running of window vista

There are many things that might cause your PC to run slowly or restart at time and then. It could be a fragmented disk; fragmented registry; a virus, Trojan, or spy ware; high CPU and/or utilization due to too many programs running; high disk I/O; or something else.

To check your CPU and memory utilization, run Task Manager. You can start Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and then clicking on the Task Manager Button. In Task manager, click on the Performance tab and check CPU Usage and PF Usage. PF Usage is an indicator of memory usage. If one or both of these is high, click on the Processes tab, and sort the columns by CPU or Memory to see what processes are consuming the resource. If you are not sure what the process "Image name" is for, Google the name and you should find what the process is for.

If your CPU and memory usage are reasonable, then you may have a different issue. Even if you running anti-virus software, it may be beneficial to scan your PC with another scanner to check for viruses. Here is a few good virus scanners that you can run to check your PC:

Slow to open

Hi,
Is this slow when start up the computer or slow when you open an application?
If slow when start up the computer, the reason is your computer has too much start up programs and services. All these software, services is required to open as start up of the computer, that reduce speed of log on/ start up process. You can speed up by try these steps:
1. Start - Run: type: msconfig and hit enter.
2. The System Configuration Window will appear. Click on Selective Startup. Then go to Start up tab, untick the process that you think it not importance for start up such as Acrobat Reader...ect. 3. Then hit apply and restart your computer. You can disable all of start up services.
If slow when you try to open an application, then the reason is your computer busy work with some other higher piority process. If you think that you need this application open quicker, you can go to Task Manger and End the task you don't want it run or the task that took a lot of CPU resources.

Hope this will hellp

PC is running slow

I would take a look at your task Manager to see whats running.... Access to Task Manager
depends on what OS you are running. You can right click your taskbar below and open
up task manager. Review Applications and processes to see whats programs are
causing problems... maybe you might recognize something.. Use this for information only to give
you an idea of where your problem is... It is not recommended to kill a process unless you
know what you are doing. If you see something thats strange then post it and let us know, could
also be a virus/pest which is known to slow down your system.

My Toshiba satellite pro M10 very slow.

check your system performance thru task manager. check for CPU usage. usually COU usage is 1% to 10%. if your CPU usage would peak from 10% to 100% there is a huge possibility that there is program running on your computer that eats up your memory. Or it could be spyware/malware

Performance make faster in the task manger can you do any thing make it faster

You can end certain tasks in the Processes tab of Task Manager. Check the processes such as toolbar and other processes and end them by right clicking the process and selecting End Process. Do not end System process, they would be mentioned as SERVICE, SYSTEM.

System running very slow, programs not responding including anti virus which is not performing virus scan.

- Open Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc).
- Open Processes Tab.
- Make the column "CPU Time" shown (somewhere in menu).

You will see, which process eat the performance.

If Task Manager doesn't start, it must be a quite clever virus. Try
Anti-Malware

It is free.

Hard drive

When you say it's slow what I often found is that
1.not enough memory on your laptop
** so your CPU have to use your harddisk as memory, instead of working directly your CPU have another work to manage thus cos your system to slow down.
** you can check memory usage by right-click on your taskbar and click on Task Manager.Go up to Performance and check
Physical memory and see your available memory.

2.use more than one anti-virus program. Its just like before your work has been check by one program and now somebody is calling your same work to be recheck. Thus cos your system to become really slow.

3.Something is running all the time.A virus or something is running all the time.Shut it down by right-click on your taskbar and click on Task Manager.Go up to Performance and see CPU
usage that its 100%!!!! If so go up to process tab and right click
on the process you think is creating problem and End Process Tree.

3.The combination of not enough muemory and also not enough
harddrive space. When I say not enough harddriver I mean really low about 100-300 Megs.

so in your case not the problem with Harddrive..cos you have 1.5G

takecare.
