I had the same problem,my camera fell down and the lens was stuck to an angle. i was afraid my guarantee wouldnt cover this so i tried a few tricks which i read in this forum like applying pressure as to get the gears back in place but unfortunately to no avail. As the camera was just 2 weeks old i sent the camera in for repair purposes but i didnt admit it fell down, i got the camera back with a new objective, i'm happy its alright now..so my tip b4 u try fixing it urself send the camera in. For Geman viewers . i bought the camera in Saturn.

Hi ive got a solution to this

apparently i have some bad news , its the lense which is misaligned or broken in terms of gears, the thing to do turn on the camera and make sure that lens is out and then LIGHTLY tapp on the lens the direction of which you feel that the lens is not equal legnth to the outer ring > place that looks uneven

I had this problem once. The lens was stuck open and the power would not go on. I took out the storage card and the lens retracted.

I am having power supply and lens problem with a canon sd1000 digital camera. its not working with the battery inside and the lens got stuck and was not closing and now it is open but the camera is off and...

I am afraid you have the notorious lens stuck problem. If you google "canon lens stuck" or "canon lens not retracing" the results will be in millions. Canon's quote for repairing this issue is well over the cost of the camera itself. However all is not lost. It may be just dust. You can try to clean the lens contacts with isopropyl alcohol and see if resolves the issue. I have previously suggested placing the camera lens on the edge of the table and hit it with moderate force to force the lens back into the slot and I was surprised to know it worked for a lot of people!

Might be worth a try after getting a quote from canon?

Lens stuck open ,

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here are some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

KODAK M863 LENS STUCK

Here's what I did...Mine had the lens stuck out and would not power on. Just a green blinking for a second or two. Well, I tried twisting the lens ring closest to the camera while hitting the power button. It's kinda tricky to do...BUT, just keep at it. Mine was a $1 resale shop "find" and now it works. This worked for me. Maybe it will help you!

Lens error: Lens is stuck open when I power on.

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

You can restart the camera (power off and on or follow reset procedures) and/or try to get the grit out so the lens can retract.

the lens cover gets stuck sometimes. It just needs a gentle touch and it opens up. Only happened once to me. In my case it happened after my daughter held onto the camera with her finger on the lens cover.
