Motor problem on Magimix 5100

When trying to operate the 5100 (either pulse or normal) the motor spins slowly and produce very low spinning power. Unusual sound is produced. The spindle spins freely by hand and the inside does not smell burned. Could it be a capacitor?

The capacitor is just for galvanic separation, it doesn't let the electric "parasites" to induce into the power network. So, it might be an interrupted section of the motor's coil.

Hi. Replaced the capacitor. Put in a 40uf one that I bought at a local air-condition store and it works fine. The capacitor here is not for filtering the AC power but for creating a second phase to the motor through phase delay. That way a one phase AC motor can rotate. Explained here (didn't know it before):http://electronics.stackexchange.com/que...

Thanks for the help, Yoram .

Hi,
The unusual sound and the fact that the spindle spins freely by hand makes me suppose it is a gearing issue. Spare parts are expensive. Check here, if it helps: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Magimic-5100G-Food-Processor-and-Accessories-/182318641344

Dan

Thanks Dan. I thought of gearing as well but when I opened it up I see that it's a direct drive machine and the spindle is actually the motor shaft. Parts are expensive indeed, and the two options are capacitor (cheap) or motor.

My MagiMix food processor is running but there is not much power and the spindle is turning very slowly. Does anyone have any repair suggestions?

It could be two things.

The carbon brushes to the motor need replacing.
or
The motor capacitor is failing.

If your motor is running Slow or just Humming and not going round, it could be the capacitor, this can be caused by running in a damp atmosphere or continuous use ie commercial.

Kenmore 80 series will spin when draining, but not agitate or spin during spin cycle.

Hello. I'm a little confused at the description of the problem. You indicated it, "will not agitate during wash cycle or spin during the spin cycle." But later in your description you indicated, "It will however, drain and spin after wash cycle and during the rinse cycle." I'm not sure if you description was an error but it sounds like you will need to replace the coupling which is part number 285753A.

Runs fine on low speed hums on high speed (turns slowly) is it a capacitor problem, internal windings or controller?

Motor itself is the culprit.

Capacitor helps the motor to start spinning from a dead stop, so NO, it is not a capacitor problem.

Probably high speed windings. Means - New Motor needed.

Another possibility, is the controller could be sending power to "Both" sides of the windings: High speed & Low speed at the same time. But normally when this happens, you hear a loud buzz type of sound, motor will spin slowly - if at all.

Good Luck

Can I change the plastic motor spindle on a magimix 5100?

Yes you can, you can "cut" it off with a soldering iron by melting a slot down one side. When banging a new one on you need to remove the base and suppert the bottom of the shaft with something solid underneath it. The whole motor assembly will be sitting on this as you bang the new sleeve on with a soft mallet. If you don't there is a danger you will wreck the motor and you cannot afford to replace that bit.

Spin cycle on any setting will spin slowly but will not go into hispeed spin, why?

Hello there:
The clutch may be worn. If your washer is a kenmore or GE, it may use a clutch to come up to the proper spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit from spinning well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician. The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor. The transmission may not be shifting properly. Older washers produced by Whirlpool® have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may drain the water but not spin. This is a complex system, if your washer has a shifter problem, you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

Dead motor in Magimix Cuisine 5100

Remove and check if there is any fault of a brush contact or switch contact or if the load trip switch had reset.
If the power is coming to the motor and is not running you need to confirm fully if the windings are open , if so replace motor.
if not remove and reset the setting of the brush/commutator.
