I am having problems with my SP-310 Olympus Camera. When I power up the camera the amber and green led lights flicker and a "Battery Empty" error immediately appears in the LCD even with fresh batteries installed. Sometimes the lens will extend but most times it does not. No camera functions are available ie. picture taking/picture review/menu access etc. After a short time the camera beeps and shuts down. I have sent the Camera to Olympus for repair and they have supposedly done a "Firmware Upgrade" but when it was returned I am still having the same problems so I am reluctant to resend it for repair again. Any ideas as to what the problem may be
Thanks Lou
This problem may not be a firmware problem at all but a major board fault.
Either way the repairer fail to repair#
So they must repair it or replace it no argument.
You should take it back for repair because this one should be free for you since they did nothing the first time.A firmware upgrade is easy to do yourself too. I hope they fix it this time.
By going onto the Olympus website, you should find a place to upgrade the firmaware which is a little program update. It should not cause any problems but possible. If the camera had the problem before the upgrade, then it is not the problem. These upgrades are done with the camera attached to the computer and running a little program. It seems obvious that the repair people never even bothered to test your camera after. They should do the repair for free. You have to tell them how disappointed you are in the last repair. I wish I could look at it for you. If your not confident with the last place, you should look for another but I am trying to save you money.

You might try adjusting the battery terminals
if it has springs pull them up a little clean the
contacts. tape & cushion the batteries down so they
dont move around. this has worked before for me in
situations as you describe it worth a try.

I tried that it does not work
I would appreciate additional assistance
Being a non techie what exactly does a "Firmware upgrade" do? and given the fact that olympus repair supposedly carried out this upgrade the first time. Would this have anything to do with the continuing problem? I am somewhat reluctant to send it back for repair until I have an inkling of what may be causing the problem
