How do I know if my kindle fire is charging when I plug it in. There is no light indication that tell me if it is. Even tho it has been plugged in I have less than 5% charge and it shuts off.

If you use the charger that came with your kindle fire, you can rest knowing that it will not overcharge by leaving it plugged in too long. Usually 4 to 6 hours should fully charge it though.
The Kindle Fire HD, if completely discharged, may take several hours to begin to accept a charge again. Simply leave it plugged in long enough and the on-board system will sort it out.
Make sure that the kindle is fully charged. When charging the kindle 3 will have a yellow light indicating that it is charging. When this turns green, your kindle is fully charged. Make sure your kindle is fully charged and then try turning it back on.
