I had a virus and removed the hard drive to get past the problem I was going to replace the hard drive . Now I can't get back in due to the password. I know how to remove a password on a desktop.
OP you posted with no OS stated, why? operating system.
windows,
you cant,
there are 2 password levels
1: BIOS, if set, your doomed,
2: OS, level, if forgot reload OS.
if new LT with w10 and are logging in MS.com that is easy to revert the login to local, ask
NO OS STATED< why do that and expect and answer correct.?
if it asks for A PW
with no HDD/SSD connected that means
some bad guy turned on BIOS passwords.
DOOMed now.
on newer PC< this is a new feature
is hardware security chip that does that.
and is set, only removing said chip can fix it.
see? in fact that is the whole idea.
solution is to keep bad guys out of your BIOS.
all 5 PW classes are covered here.http://www.pcdied.com/passwords.html
the HP PC unstated.
to get rid if virus, and pw
power on, hammer the F11 key, to reload the OS.
with old hdd still installed,
if replaced HDD F11 is now dead for ever.
in that case you get to buy windows again.

Try removing the virus on the old hard drive. You can always take it to a computer tech, otherwise you will need recovery disks to reinstall the operating system and you lose all your data and programs.
A good antivirus is TrendMicro Internet Security.
Hope this helps.
