I have a IH 656 gas tractor. it wont run unless the choke is pulled out more than halfway. when it is warmed up and you try to close the choke the engine starts going fast then slow, fast then slow, and if you close the choke all the way it dies. I have replaced the air filter, cleaned the sediment bowl. drained the gas from the carb bowl, and finally today I removed the carb, dismantled it, and soaked it in carb cleaner for a couple of hours, blew it all out with air pressure but all this did not help.

u have to remove the bowl so try not spill the fuel so u can see the level then u need to remove the float an plunger, now u will see a part that go almost to the bottom of bowl, there should be a jet inside unscrew it now u can blow both of them out, now one more to go there should be a shorter one , do the same to it, then put your finger inside the carb, u should feel the air are hear it no more than 90 psi of air

Have replaced Cdi box carb and fuel pump .starts fine runs good until full throttle then it starts to lose power and starts to mis .ir I pull choke all the way out it runs great

This tractor was running fine. Then one day it began to lose power and backfire when accelerated. Now it will only start on full choke and will only idle on full choke. If you try to rev it up it dies.there is no black smoke from the exhaust as you would normall expect. The carb is getting fuel a sees clean inside. Unhooking the air filter has no effect on how it runs.????

Gas Trimmer will not stay started

Many times with a gas mix, after sitting for a while, the mix separates and gums up the carb. Taking the carb off and soaking it overnight in a parts or carb cleaner and running carb cleaner through the tank and gas lines will cure this.

I tried the coil that didn't solve it

Look at this forum for tractors.
I hope it helps you!

Another thing that can cause this is the carb. It may be getting too much fuel once it's warmed up. An engine needs more fuel when it's cold than it does when it's warm. Cold engines run inefficiently so they need more raw fuel to fire-up, and stay running. This is all a choke does. A choke plate closes-off the air going into the carb which makes the fuel mixture really rich so it can run. Less air = more fuel. You'll also notice that cars with chokes also idle real high until they warm-up. This fast idle and the over rich mixture (due to lack of air), allows the engine to fire up and stay running. As the engine warms-up and starts burning fuel more efficiently, the choke plate begins to open, which slowly lets more air in and leans-out the air/fuel mixture. Once the engine is warmed-up, the choke plate will be wide open allowing the carb to run as it is supposed to with the correct metering of fuel and air.

Bought a McCulloch M3414 started okay yesterday wont start today maybe I flooded it, pulled cord so many times

1. set on/off switch to on, 2.prime it first, push the bubble about 6x 3. pull the choke all the way out, 4.pull trigger and string simultaneously 5. push in choke halfway try again, pull choke back out and etc. should start after repeating steps 4 and 5 3x or 4x when it does start, pump the gas at half choke then let it idle untill it stops push in choke all the way and it should start. don't forget to check the safety bar in front of the handle usually works with most gas operated tools

Engine wont run unless choke is almost closed and will die when you open choke up into normal position

Its a lean fuel conditoin. Probably something in the carb. Also check flow from the tank and the intake mounting screws.

24 hp Briggs Stratton sears riding mower engine wont start unless you use start fluid cleaned filter have flow to engine

If the mower starts and continues to run after injecting, you may want to make sure the choke is working properly. If the choke plate is not closing all the way, it will make cold starts difficult.

M842 chainsaw wont start when hot

I suspect your warm start procedure is the fault, the manual is not correct IMO. Any choke on a warm engine causes flooding, try this, if no better post back or return it for warranty replacement.

Start Procedure
Cold:
  1. Ignition on/off to on.
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws); pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls; no more than 4).
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull).
Warm:
  1. Ignition on/off to on.
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws) – Do not pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open) choke, pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull).

Not getting enough gas to the carb have to run choke 3/4 engaged

Sounds like a restriction in your carb, not getting enough gas. I would clean out the carb again.
