If you have already tried replacing the mainboard and it did not fix the issue, then the problem may not be related to the board. Here are a few other potential causes for a TV screen to shrink on both sides:
Picture settings: Check your TV's picture settings to ensure that the aspect ratio is set correctly. If the aspect ratio is set to "zoom" or "wide," it can cause the picture to appear smaller on both sides.
Overscan: Some TVs have a feature called "overscan" that can cause the edges of the picture to be cut off. Check your TV's settings to see if there is an overscan option, and if so, turn it off.
Defective panel: If neither of the above solutions works, it's possible that the issue is with the TV's panel itself. In this case, you may need to have the TV professionally serviced or replaced.
It's also worth noting that shrinking on both sides can sometimes be a normal behavior for certain types of content, such as older movies or TV shows that were originally shot in a different aspect ratio. In this case, the content may simply be displaying as intended.
get the on screen menu on the screen
scroll around till you see aspect ratio and click on that use the buttons to change ( you will see the changes on the screen)
click ok and exit when satisfied
Fir aspect ration to change there can be a few reasons
some tv stations produce movies in the wrong ratio and it shows up for the movie as black edges or tall figures or fat figures ( change channel to verify)
or there can be a fault occurring in the board of the set that will not hold preset aspect ratios
Please remember all modern Digital Set Top boxes are designed with HD LCD/Plasma TV's in mind. Their default aspect ratio is 16 : 9. The reverse was possible- LCD/Plasma allow you to change their viewing aspect ratio from 16 : 9 to 4:3 ( some models also allow 14:9 ). You will have to return the box if it makes it intolerable for you to watch geometric distortions !!
I just had this problem and got it solved. The issue is that your cable box is likely set to the wrong aspect ratio, so your tv will not be able to display the picture properly without this setting changed. On my cable box(Pace), you need to turn the power off to the cable box using the remote. Then hit the menu button on the remote and a new menu will appear on the screen. Change the aspect ratio to 16:9 and you should be all set. Hope this works for you too.
Just called Sony about this same problem...taking your CABLE BOX remote, push the # key on the bottom right of the remote (it also says HD Zoom on mine). You can cycle through 4 or 5 zoom options...make sure you are on an HD channel to see the changes. :)
Sounds like you may have the aspect ratio setting wrong, look for a button labeled aspect, ratio, wide any of these on your remote then press multiple times until you get the picture formatted the way you like it.If you have a satellite receiver or a digital cable box they also contain an aspect ratio adjustment in their menu system so you may need to check there also. Good luck !
Jeff, make sure to check the satellite receiver's set up menu it also has ratio adjustments the need to be set for 16:9 or whatever ratio your comfortable with. Good luck !
Yes, it is possible the settings from your cable box maybe set to the wrong ratio eg:letterbox. Depending on what type of box you have, look in the cable box menu for a settings option, then change the aspect ratio to a different format.
Try setting the set to 4.3 expanded on the aspect ratio. If that don't work try the other aspect ratio settings. That should make the picture fit the screen.
