i know my network name , but have forgotten the netword password. I use a netgear dg834gt router and my two computers work fine. I have just bout an ipod touch which can connect via wi fi. It shows my network , but I cannot sign on as i have forgotten my password for the network. Netgear suggested using the WEP Key 1 , but that didn't work and now they said i should contact apple which is ludicrous.
On the wireless settings page it says 128 bit encrypted and nothing in the passphrase box.
What should I do?
I cant remember my password to my i touch and i cant access it now can someone help?.....
Key 1 should work in most cases. If you have additional keys listed, try them also.
If none work, turn off encryption and connect your new device, then create a new password.

After you turn it off, you're going to reset it.
This is a very simple procedure that's explained in the manual.
Make sure your Touch can connect without encryption, enter a new key (Something easy, like b1b1b1b1b1), then reconnect with the new key.
You can then write down the new key, or just print the page for future reference.

you can log into the router. Some routers mask the wireless network
password, so while you cannot recover it, you can enter and save a new
password.
If you cannot log into your router because you have

To view or reset a wireless network password:
Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or
forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to
reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset
to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and
password (either "password" or "1234" depending on your router) to
reconfigure your router settings.
NOTE: Restoring factory defaults
on a device will erase any customizations you have made. You will lose
any configurations saved to the device!

Thanks for that , but if I turn off encryption , I turn off my security and I'd rather not.Key 1 does not work...I need the actual password.
If I turn of encryption , I turn off security and I'd rather not...i will just use wi fi on the touch if I go out and theres a hotspot...too much hassle at home and no one has a clear answer of what to do other than compromise my entire network...its not worth it...apparently the UK has this problem and its much less obvious in the US.
