How to finalize a disc without remote

why would it have auto finalize

It sounds like you haven't followed the last step to the burning procedure. All you need to do once you've completed burning your disc is to Finalize the disc. Read below why you need to finalize as well as the steps to follow in order to finalize the disc.

How to Finalize Finalizing is writing the TOC (table of contents) on a disc so a CD player can recognize the number of tracks, the total time for each track, and their location on the disc. A recorded disc must be finalized to playback on a standard CD player. Once finalized a CD-R disc can be played on CD players that support CD-R playback. CD-RW discs can only be played on CD players that support CD-RW playback. Consult your CD player owner's manual to confirm supported formats. Finalizing is necessary to: • be able to play a recorded CD-R or CD-RW disc on a CD player • prevent further recording on a disc • avoid erasing tracks on a CD-RW disc • record text information onto a disc you record Notes: • A finalized CD-R disc can never be recorded onto again. • A finalized CD-RW disc can be unfinalized for more recording. • The CDR300 can play back unfinalized CD-R or CD-RW discs. • SYNC REC+FINAL mode automatically finalizes.
Here are the steps in order to Finalize your disk
1 Push Stop. The display shows the number of tracks and their total playing time. 2 Push FINALIZE. FINALIZE is displayed for about 3 seconds.

Yesterday I filmed with Hitachi camcorder is DZ-GX5020A in back yard, I am actor and press the record is half hours. Camcorder causes "Repair Data" x Found error in image file. Repair data now?" I press the "Yes" is for 6 second is pop screen said " ! Use AC Adapter/Charger. Turn off power". I unplugged the recharge battery and use Ac Adapter with plug in the camcorder is turn on(I click turn on behind of camcorder on film logo) on "DISC ACCESS" then pop screen said "Repair Data" x Found error in image file. Repair data now?" I re-click on "Yes"(like before use battery pack recently) is 19 second on "Repairing" on pop screen repeat again on it's said "X Error occurred. Please Replace disc." I press square make stop. Then check said "DISC ACCESS" Then I press record because it's said "CHECK DISC" doesn't working. I believe the Hitachi camcorder cause damage on disc is erase, malfunction problem cause damage or security something. When I filmed my niece Anna Maria's B-day, Disneyland, etc. are last week agothen I am actor are filmed inside of the mini disc is very important, I tried on Finalize doesn't working cause said "Finalize Disc...! Write protected. Check disc" cause block by Repair Data's security on disc. I disabled security of Repair Data. Unknown. I am very very very angry, depression, disappointment. I am just angry at Hitechtronic, Inc. should responsible, tester, design who make camcorder should be better quality. Can you repair my mini Disc "Memorex "should disabled security of Repair Data? Something please help me for switch your camcorder is different brand out my mini disc on finalize and back to me?. Can you ask tech should fix my mini disc on finalize uses on the other camcorder (borrow is temporary) make finalize? Make sure your Sony input signal is on L1 or L3 (the inputs in back of recorder) or on L2 which is for inputs for cameras(located in front).Once you get a signal, you're where you need to be. Choose your recording mode for recording speed (pull down the flap on the remote control for this button and also the input button).
Choose from between1 hour and six hours. To archive really important stuff, stick with the first 3 speeds. TV recording can be on 3, 4 or 6 hour mode.
Push the record/pause button once. This will put the recorder into the record/pause mode and then it awaits you pushing it again to start recording immediately. Just pushing record will force the machine into a 3 to five second delay before actually recording anything so you might mess up and miss the first few seconds of your input. Suggest you use a dvr-rw or dvd+rw to practice on.

When your recording is done, just push the pause again. It stops recording but allows you to add more on to the first recording without starting a new chapter if you want. Just continue to release the pause button to continue.
If you are satisfied that you are finished, then push the pause button to stop recording. Wait for the info to be written(flashing message on screen). When it stops, you may play the dvd.
Notice- since the dvd has not been FINALIZED, you may only play it back on this unit without finalizing. It will not play on other dvd players unless you finalize it first.
To finalize, look on remote for the TOOL button. Press it once. Now push DISC INFO once. Use arrow keys and enter button on remote for the following. Scroll down to FINALIZE and press enter.
Use arrow keys to scroll to OK. push the ENTER button. Finalizing should take between 30 seconds and 2 minutes.

Warning- if titles or chapters are to typed in, it must be done BEFORE finalizing. Finalizing afterwards cannot be done.
Erasing can be done in part or all if using an RW+ or RW- disc

I noticed that too with my "VR" (and NOT "Video") formatted disks. I don't think you can finalize the VR ones. Instead you have to use the Sony Import tool to grab the videos. If you are like me you probably remember using the import tool with Video formatted disks BEFORE finalizing them and it takes forever to copy them. They must be finalized to view on other devices, copy using the import tool quicker, etc., but VR formatted disks seem optimized for importing (and can be edited on the camcorder directly.

Samsung support just told me that there has to be some space left on the disc to finalize it. In other words if you fill the disc with too much video, the disc won't be able to write the necassary info on the disc to finalize it. Support told me you needed 10MB to finalize. He also told me to leave 7- 10 minutes of free space which is ridiculous because the disc only records 20 minutes. I have complained to Samsung about this ommission from the manual and that the camcorder should know to leave enough space to finalize the disc.>

okay so i have founnd the solution happily and i am actually finalizing my disk right now!!! woooohoo plug the camera in and use the remote that it came with to navigate through the menu!! the finalize button is now able to function!! I hope this works for u!!

to clear "error 14", press the "display" button on the remote control - this has worked every time my toshiba has an error 14 message

I had the same problem. Called Samsung, they told me not to use DVD+R DL discs (despite their presence in the compatibility table in the manual). They also said DVD+R discs don't need finalizing, which contradicts the manual. I can't get them to play in my PC. For the first two discs I tried, it seemed to get write errors halfway through the disc, as if it had trouble with the second layer. I didn't record long enough on the third to find out. The camcorder still shows video on the third disc, but I can't finalize it and it won't play on my PC. Glad I'm only borrowing this camera. Won't buy a Samsung, and probably won't buy a DVD cam.
