Are you asking about a specific Butterick pattern?

If so, probably one or more of the sales people at the sewing supplies store where you purchased the pattern can advise you. I suggest you take the pattern and instructions with you to the store and ask about the instructions which confuse you.

Personal opinion: You may benefit from purchasing a book written for beginner home sewers. You can see what relatively recent sewing instruction books are held by your local public library, first, and check some out. Then, you can decide which book would be good to purchase.

Or do you mean by your question you need to contact the Butterick pattern company and ask questions about a pattern you have?

I saw that pattern sold out, and also some older patterns using the same number.

Unless you can purchase a duplicate of the pattern, you are probably out of luck. If you can find a similar pattern by Butterick, you may be able to use the instructions from it.

I hope I am correct in understanding you are referring to Butterick pattern 6107. If so, I don't own that particular pattern and accompanying instructions. Am I also safe to assume you do not have the sheet of written instructions with images to accompany the garment pattern? In case you have the pattern pieces but not the sheet of instructions, you may wish to contact the McCall Pattern Co. In the meantime, assuming I am correct about your sewing Butterick pattern 6107, I see the coat has 2 collar styles - 1 a shawl collar and 1 a stand up collar.

If you are sewing the shawl collar version, perhaps this online tutorial (with pictures) on sewing a shawl collar will be instructive:

If neither of those resources seem helpful, then you may find an experienced sewer in your neighborhood who will offer to help show you what to do. How to go about that:
- If you are not already a member of the neighborhood web site Nextdoor.com, I recommend you join it (free.) You will be able to identify and limit your "neighborhood" when you register.
- Once you are a Nextdoor.com member, post a question asking if someone in your neighborhood could instruct you in how to sew the kind of collar you wish to sew. Note: I recommend using the private message feature to share addresses and phone numbers.
- There will probably be a kind neighbor or two who will be willing to come to your home and demonstrate to you one-on-one on how to sew the collar and turn it out.

If you would rather not follow the Nextdoor.com route, then, my last option is for you to contact the local public school system and ask for then name and contact information for the person / people who teach sewing (probably in middle school / junior high school) in the school system. Then contact a sewing teacher and ask her/him if you can arrange a lesson with her/him on how to sew your collar. I recommend offering to pay for the teacher's time.

You can try contacting Butterick for help. Otherwise, short of buying another pattern, you may be out of luck.
