Did you install the full featured software or did you connect the printer to the computer and get a generic driver? The generic driver in the OS may not control the scanner on an all-in-one. Remove any generic driver and unplug the data cable. Download and install the software from
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3795406& , select your OS.
Check through HP update if there is a patch to your driver or software. If you use a USB hub or print server, try a direct connection.
Are you launching the scan from the printer or from the computer? You need the monitor program running and to have set the scan destinations in the HP software before using the buttons on the unit. Try launching the HP software and scanning there. Once you do that you will have a better idea of the destinations and default settings to use in the Scan buttons on the software. These will be uploaded to the printer by the software.
