You may need to install the drive for it first. Go to the manufacturers web page and see if they have any softwear for your camcorder. Install it, then open up the program, plug in your camcorder, turn it on, wait till it (computer or softwear) recognizes it and see if you can do it using the softwear you just installed.

Macbook pro doesnt recognize the panosonic pv-gs9 when connected with firewire

I take it that your macbook pro has imovie on it. If you open up imovie and plug in your camcorder it should recognise the camcorder and give you access to putting the movie onto your mac. Have a look at http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/ it should help.

Please tell me from where i can download DCR-TRV285E driver of sony digital 8 .

If you mean a driver to transfer the video to your computer via firewire (ieee1394), then you are in luck! No driver is needed. As long as you have a correctly installed firewire port on your computer, a firewire connecting cable, and video editing software, you should be able to easily transfer video to your system.
Connect the camera to the computer via the firewire cable.
Turn on the camera.
Put the camera in playback mode.
Startup Windows Movie Maker or iMovie if on a Mac or whatever video program you prefer.
Should be an option for "capture" or "import from camera".
Use that and you are good to go!

I have a Panasonic PV-GS39 and want to put my movies onto computer that's running on windows 7. Using the USB cable doesn't work. Will the firewire cable really work or am I just out of luck? Thanks for...

This type of camera usually downloads better with a Firewire (DV) connection. Some mini-DV cameras only use the USB connection (if they have one) for stills and can only download video by Firewire. This is because you have to play the tape into the computer, not just copy a file. The way it works on my computer, the camera is controlled by the computer software.

Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. As most Windows PCs do not come with this interface, you might need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card. This will come with a driver for the card.

Whether this will work with Windows 7, I am not sure. My Mini-DV camera, using a Firewire cable, didn't need any camera driver loaded to the computer, just the movie editor that came with Windows XP.

We are trying to get some Hi8 footage onto our macintosh computer. We have both the VHS camera and the Elura 90. We have a firewire and have successfully transfered lots of digital video onto the computer,...

the procedure is the same ..for vhs...but you will need a firewire cable ..also ..and a program that will import from device...The issue is that Im not sure what program you need for MAC ..but if you have a windows computer available to do that ..things are getting simple..just follow this video..
http://www.5min.com/Video/Windows-Movie-Maker---import-from-a-DV-tape-6876
So...if you have a movie maker in your Mac ..the procedure will be the same ,just playback in the camera ...be sure it is detected by the firewire cable...and record (import ) with the movie maker...

What cable is required to download the recorded video on tape?

To download from the tape (not the memory card) you need a firewire cable, and a computer that has firewire compatibility. Most laptops have this, but desktops may require a firewire card to be installed.

How do you record without sound

Hi there,

There does not appear to be any provision on the camcorder menu, to mute the audio.

As an alternative, I would recommend you connect the camcorder to your computer or laptop (via firewire if possible) and transfer the footage onto your computer's hard drive.

You can then use your computer's Movie Maker application to edit the footage - here you can either remove the audio track, or overlay your new audio soundtrack.

Good luck !
