One possible thought is to change the batteries in the remote itself.

If the display for volume goes up but there is not sound--a number of simple things to do.

Does the set have sound with a DVD etc hooked to one of the rear audio/video inputs?

If using a box for signal, a receiver etc--unplug each one at a time and after a short wait plug them back to allow them to reboot.

In set look to see speakers did not somehow get switched OFF.

Cable, Sat and receiver all have volume controls so make sure someone did not turn one of them to zero sound.

You could have a audio problem in the set itself but that is fairly rare.

The only thing I can think of is that maximum limit has been set low and is somehow lowering itself. To set the maximum limit

On the home screen, tap settings
Tap Music, then tap Volume Limit
The volume limit control will then come up to raise the limit move the slider all the way to the right.

If you want to stop the volume limit moving you can put in a passcode by clicking on the Lock Volume Limit and entering a passcode (I'd just put in 1234, so you can remember it easily(

Try removing the batteries from the remote after you set the volume, just to determine if the remote is causing the problem or not. I have seen stuff spilled on remotes and they just go crazy.

Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.
