I turned on my tv this morning and I could hear the audio but no picture (Black Screen). there's a yellow light blinking and I tried the old hold the power button down for 5 seconds solution but no change. the light turned green for a few seconds but went right back to yellow. Is my TV trash or can this be a cheap fix?
Most likely the power supply board needs to be replaced. It could also be the T-con board or less likely the display itself.
If you don't know what you're doing, DON'T OPEN THE TV UP TO FIX IT, THERE ARE HAZARDOUS VOLTAGES ON THE POWER SUPPLY BOARD, EVEN WEEKS AFTER THE TV IS UNPLUGGED!
If you don't know how to do it yourself, find some local Electronic repair shops, get quotes, try to find reviews on the shops.
I followed the steps at the following link and it worked for me. I have a 2007 Toshiba Regza 42HL67, but the firmware applies to many models as documented in the readme file at the location found via the link below. I used a 1gb SD card formatted FAT16, copied the unzipped files and folder to the card (wasn't sure if it required the top level folder or only the files under the top level folder so I copied both to the root of the SD card), unplugged the TV, inserted the card, plugged in the TV, waited 2.5 minutes, unplugged the TV, removed the card, plugged in the TV, yellow light flashed 3 times and went out. I turned on the TV and it has worked normally since last night.
