I just went through this with Porter Cable 18V but I can't say it is the same for Ryobi. On the PC, all 18V batteries are interchangable on the tools, but the charging needs are different. A dedicated NiCad charger can't shouldn't be used for liOn but the later chargers will work for either battery.
Ryobi offers an 18V upgrade: RYOBI Tools
Is your ryobi 18V battery is a Li-ion battery? if so you can store it with 40% power and keep it clean, cool, and dry. Then every 1-2 month to charge and discharge the battery for once time.

I checked a couple sites and would suggest calling RYOBI parts supplier at 1-877-545-4099 to ensure that you get the correct charger. They might ask you what the model nnumber and the voltage and type of battery so have these numbers handy. Let me know if you need more assistance.
That is true the One+ 18V Li-Ion battery packs will work in any One+ 18V Ryobi tool. However the Lithium ion batteries will not charge in the original P110 NiCd charger. You will need one of the the new series Ryobi One+ 18V "dual chemistry" chargers for that. The will charge both types of battery packs.
Just got a reply from Ryobi tech service and it says that "all Ryobi 18V platform power tools can accept and use the lithium batterys, but you must use the charger for the lithium to recharge them. Hope this helps. Dave
