External Hard Drive won't show up!

I bought a Fantom Titanium II 200GB External Hard Drive earlier this year. I have an iMac G5 with Mac OSX Tiger installed. It worked fine for the first few months, but this summer, it stopped showing up on my computer all together. I thought maybe it was one of my Mac updates, but after doing some research on that and a whole lot of fiddling, I realized it wasn't that. I've spent the last few months trying to figure out and troubleshoot the problem, but I have no idea what to do.
It doesn't even recognize it when it's plugged in for me to access it on Apple's Disk Utility to reformat it. Any ideas?

When I first bought it and connected it - it worked just fine - I sonnected it both to my home and then to my office's PC... and I backed them up... then I left it connected to my home PC but never used it again to do another BU... now that this old PC is flaky and I bought me a new laptop to use, I cant see it - I connect it to other PC's and it connects and self-configures just fine, but then you can't see it in windows explorer to be able to use it... no matter what you do...

Any help/ideas would be very much appreciated...

I can not locate a driver for my Fantom Titanium II (TFD500C16) 500 GB USB Hard Drive. Do you know where?

Your device should not need drivers Fte Fantom/Titanium drives are fully supported by both Windows and Mac OS's.
Try replacing the cable or using a different USB port.
Sorry I cannot be of more help, The drive itself may be damaged, You can test this by physically removing the drive itself from the case and installing it internally to your system....If the drive functions properly, then the problem is within the board inside the casing.

My mac G4 not recognize my 500GB external FantomDrive. HD light is on but Mac can't see it!

If you bought it from a friend, then ask them to reformat it for you as a FAT32 partition. Mac can not see NTFS, which most Windows users use since you get more space on the drive.

If it is brand new and your G4 isn't recognizing it, then I would return it for a new one. I don't trust things that aren't working out of the box, especially when they charge so much for things.

External Hard Drive won't show up!

Hi,
i,m not too much up on Macs.
But i,m going to try my best to help you, as i do have a wide knowledge of windows operating systems.
I,d firstly suggest looking in the device manager, at what usb devices are set and configured. as the external drive is looking for a vacant usb port. try the drive(s) in another usb port if you have one. Why i state this, is that the usb slot could be configured to look for another/alternative device.
Secondly if you look in the device manager, to establish whether you have any devices conflicting. Then i,d suggest updating any drivers relating to the USB hubs where possible.
Also check in the Bios, to ensure the USB ports are enabled, this could have been changed with a software update or computer virus.
Finally try a double USB to single cable, 2x usb plugs one end, to single in the hard-drive end, i suffered a problem which the hard-drive did,nt get enough power from a single cable.
I hope this helps you resolve your problems.

Drive not being recognized

Have you tried this in another PC with, say, WinXP? If it worked then it may be 1 of 2 problems:
1) Driver Issue- you may use a compatible driver and not necessarily a "Fantom" driver. WinME needs drivers for these devices unlike WinXP
2) The USB port is not giving enough power to the drive for it to run (a problem common in older PCs). I have an external USB harddisk that needs to use 2 USB ports in my old Dell laptop since 1 USB port can't supply the power it needs. The cable should have a dual-USB jack on one end, this is so you could use the power from the other USB port.

Hope this helps
